Regarding size, I am debating about lenses to take on a trip overseas. I am set on taking the 12-24, my CV 40/1.2, and a long telephoto I love, the Leica R 180/2.8. I am debating between my Loxia 85/2.4 and the CV 65/2. I was comparing stats today and noted that the CV 65 is heavier, but not by much: Loxia is 1.31 lb (594g), the CV is 1.38 (625g). I don't hear folks complaining about the Loxia 85 being too heavy. Now, the CV is chunkier, but hardly huge. To me, it is without question worth the size and weight penalty. I don't know of another lens that is as good anywhere near its focal length and aperture without being a good bit larger. Don't talk to me about the Leica M 75/2 as this is quite a bit better corrected and sharper at large apertures. Otus 55? Okay, but quite a bit bigger.
Bob, thank you for these surreal beauty samples ! I followed you through your 5DM3 and ZE first steps and now I find your work here and I will follow again. "pick your teachers"... Great images from the CV65!
I ordered them all now, the 12, 40 and 65. Curious to see the 35 in January. rji2goleez wrote:
Another image of my now favorite lens
This is simply the best lens I have in my kit, followed by my Batis 138 2.8. The one blessing this lens has is there is no copy variance reported , known or seen. Why I picked this one to sell to stabilize the cash flow for the A7rIII because I know when I buy it back I don't have to worry about any copy variance. I have all golden copies on my lenses and i don't want to play they freaking lottery on any of them. This I have the most faith in getting another golden copy. Trust me i don't want to sell it, its one of my favorites. But I need to get it back once I get the A7rIII because this is the perfect lens to test the Pixel Stitch feature

Sounds like you’ll only be without it for a month or so....wouldn’t it be less hassle and possibly cheaper just to take on the extra credit card or mortgage withdrawal debt for that period rather than sell and buy back?
I got a wife standing over me with a baseball bat are you crazy. Lol
Honestly I don’t want to dip into the personal stuff. I will actually buy it after my big gig in January. I need all AF stuff for that work. Besides I rented a A7rII today bought a MC -11 and snug in aSigma 24-70 2.8 to go with it. Been on a tear here. Lol
I have somewhat quickly adapted to using it as a walk around and landscape lens. It requires thinking and planning a bit differently for me as I usually shot 35mm and wider.

A most humbling compliment . . . I thank you for coming on my journey!

I find the lens easy to focus as it is so sharp that when I use focus peeking, it lights up like crazy when I hit focus.
Same experience here. It's very easy to nail focus with the CV 65/2 because contrast and resolution is so high from wide-open throughout the image field. Peaking always shows 'red' (my color choice) even when set it to low. With some lenses, I have to bump peeking to mid or high for it to show when using focus magnification.

Be nice if we had it bump up automatically when we hit the magnify. That would be a very cool update
+1 Exactly my wish too. When you have it on a level enough to be useful at 100% it can get crazy in the viewfinder when looking at the normal full image in the EVF when you have a very sharp lens and lots of detail in your image.
I spent the past week reading every post in this 55 page thread, getting more and more excited about this lens. Decided this was the right lens for me, so I went to B&H to place the order and..
"Due to certain restrictions, this item cannot be shipped to CANADA."
Amazon.ca doesn't sell it but Amazon.com does, but will need an extra $164 for shipping and import fees. I wanted to buy from B&H for the free shipping and because I trust the company. eBay has them, but will be shipped from Hong Kong or Japan. Arghh
Or, given the current exchange rate, consider buying from the Voigtlander importer to the UK. Not sure what the tax implications are but this is a good place to start.
I have no connection to the firm but I do have a soft spot for them given some history which I will explain one day soon when I can get over to Dorchester and take a photograph!?
