No lens is long enough for birding. And no lens is too short for birding.

most of the shots here are from community parks or a backyard that proves that the lens is too short for real wildlife. I'm glad it makes you happy.

Two out of six, or if you include the mammals, two out of eleven is 'most'? I believe your comment proves something else. Here are a few more:
all: a7rII or a7rIII, 100-400 GM
Patience and observation will go a long way toward making a 400mm lens useful for birds.

Wanted to see what the 100-400 with the 1.4x teleconverter could do in APS-C mode and then what a fairly heavy crop of APS-C mode would look like. Here are two moon shots - the first as framed in APS-C mode, the second cropped and edited. I probably made some technical errors - I've never taken photos of the moon before.

Travelling to Guatemala soon, I would like to attract less attention and add a bit of protection.
The only option I can find is the expensive lenscover sold at B&H/Amazon.
Looks like there is a cheaper neoprene version sold by a company in UK, but it will take more than 2 weeks to be delivered in California.
Worst case I can try to make one with some vinyl or neoprene. Do you use a lens cover on your 100-400 ?
(I have posted the same question on the "200-400 lens cover" thread)

The moon was bright and the sky was clear last night so I wanted to see what the A7R IV could do with the 100-400 and 1.4x. All of my prior moon photos have been shot with either the A7III or A9. The extra cropping ability with the A7R IV combined with the 100-400 and 1.4x captured some great details. This was shot with the full 61mp and cropped to 1800x1800.

Mine is from outdoorphotographygear, nicely made. But shipping is long enough... I had no hurry when I ordered. Never taken off since.

A note of caution to owners of this lens as I discovered this evening that the 4 screws holding the mount to the lens body were coming loose and the it was starting to wobble when mounted on the camera. Easily fixed but something to keep an eye on
