p.44 #1 · Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM Image Thread
First time out photographing planes with the 100-400 GM yesterday. First are a couple of a Russian Antonov-12B, a plane you rarely see here on the West Coast, as it is based in the Ukraine. It flew in from Houston and then was heading back.
Next up is a NSW Fire jet from Australia. There is a Cal Fire 10 tanker fire base at this airport and maybe they were doing joint training. The jet took off at the far end of the airport, luckily made 1 pass, then headed out of the area.
Last is a 727 jet that is used to transport race horses! Horse racing is returning to Santa Anita Racetrack in September and maybe they were bringing in horses for that event.

Not according to Wikipedia, see below. It is a long time Russian design (1957) and as I said in the OP, this one is based in the Ukraine.

Don’t mix up the the Soviet Union with Russia. Russia and Ukraine were parts of the Soviet Union. However Ukraine is not a part of Russia. All the years and dates you list are pre-1991, when the Soviet Union was dissolved. The wikipedia article about Antonov, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonov, clearly states that Antonov is located in Ukraine.
Russia is currently under sanctions by the US, EU etc for supporting armed pro-Russian rebels in Eastern Ukraine and for illegally occupying Crimea, which is a Ukrainian province.
From the wikipedia article: « In 2014, following the annexation of the Crimea by Russia, Ukraine cancelled contracts with Russia, leading to a significant income reduction in Ukraine's defense and aviation industries.[7] However Ukraine has been slowly recovering the deficit from breaking ties with Russia by entering new markets and expanding its presence in old ones such as India.»

When the plane was built in in 1959 it was built in the Soviet Union/Russia. To all Americans there was no difference, the 2 names are the same. What happened in 1991 has no bearing on that, it is still a Russian plane from 1959. And all the references pre-1991 are not mine, there are in Wikipedia and they used the term Russia too. So go argue with them OK.

Hate to be a stickler, but Antonov is Ukrainian, not Russian. To say it's Russian because the Ukraine was in the USSR is like saying an aircraft built in Kansas is Californian, because both states are in the USA.
