Cool shot! I like to guess the aperture of your close focus 100-400 bug shots, but I was WAY off on this one...guessing a heavy crop? You got a lot in focus for only f7.1

Would you share your secret on achieving such sharpness?
Is the flash the magic ingredient here allowing for stepped down aperture with reasonable ISO values?

A good tip is to use flash as much as possible on smaller bugs
however, the picture of the Cockchafer is without flash and taken with A9 at 400mm f5.6 Iso 500 1/200

Looking at a parent Great Egret and 3 Nestlings in the nest and 2 other Great Egrets from the nest behind (at least one of the 2 is a Nestling).
Cropped; tripod mounted 100-400mm GM set to 336mm and A7rIII; silent shutter.
ISO 100, f5.6, 1/1000 second.
Exposure corrected -0.29 Stops.
