Just looked at some long distance test shots I took with the store display copy and it is a mighty impressive lens at 400 mm even wide open. Sharp to the corners on my A7RIII. 100mm looks pretty darned good as well.

I haven't used it all that much yet but I really like it when I do use it. Bokeh could be better but it is really quite good for a 100-400 zoom and it works so very well with the 1.4x teleconverter, albeit at f/8.
Here, wide open.

Seriously? It is only 3 pounds :-)
I was surprised when I went from my Olympus EM1.2 and 300 Pro w/ TC that the A7Riii, 100-400 and TC actually weighed a hair less on our scale. (don't remember the numbers, now).

The 100-400 GM is one of my favorite landscape lenses...
Yup, works as a landscape and a wildlife tele. FYI: the African Green Pigeon is totally OOC, except for some sharpening. Hand-held at 1/320 sec at the full 560mm (using 1.4TC on A7Riii) and is a 100% crop!

So, I have been struggling with this thread since it was created. The choices do not include "Own it, use it a lot, and share images", which MANY of us do.
If I came to this forum and saw the survey results, I was assume that a high percentage of people are not happy with this lens, which is absolutely not true.
Does anyone agree? Should we start a new thread of 100-400GM Images and let this thread die?

Hello there neighbor from the Land of Enchantment.
No I don’t think it’s a good idea to let this thread die.
I believe there are several threads out there that have lots of FE 100-400 images in them.
One general FE images one, one in combination with the A9, etc.
You can always start a new one with the hneading you like and see whether it takes off.
Good luck with that. I mean it.

Really really reaaaaaaaally good shots being shared here!
I think the poll is rather insignificant and the words used by me on each option were slightly on the silly/joking side, if you didn't get it by now...
What's most important is what all the users have been saying and the photos they have been sharing here. Until then it was hard to find photos from this lens unless you were searching through the big FE thread or the A9 one.
If Fred wants to remove the poll and change the thread name to FE100-400 GM Images or something like that, that's fine with me.
Please continue to share your photos cause I at least can't have enough of them. I've been using mine on and off but haven't shared many of my shots yet. Going to spend a month in Japan starting this weekend and will surely be using this lens a lot. If I'll ever share a photo of it, that's another topic...

Beautiful samples all over the place!
This lens is exciting me from the start although I am pretty sure that I won't carry it around.. It would probably have the same fate as my Contax 100-300.

Not sure what happened to your Contax, but I have been hiking many, many miles with the 100-400, and love it. Only 5 pounds total, body and lens.
