Great comps Jannik!
The 135 GM delivers a more 3-dimensional image compared to the 85 GM imo.

How many days left Guy?

I just got called by my local dealer where I pre-ordered my 135 GM, they spoke to the Sony rep and were told the shipment is arriving on the East coast on the 30th, will be shipped to Los Angeles center from there and then to them to expect the lens to arrive in the first shipment on May 5th or 6th

I respectfully disagree. I can't see that to be honest.

I personally find that 135 GM images look more three-dimensional compared to 85 GM's mainly because of the higher contrast and faster transition zone. To me, the 135 GM has more of the "Zeiss look" even compared to Zeiss lenses like the Batis 135...
This is all subjective of course.

I agree with Fred. The focused subject almost jumps out and I also thought that Zeiss would have been proud of that lens.

It really has to do with the way of viewing the image. On my phone, I don't see as much of this as on my PC.

I think when we talk about 3D effects it is easy to forget that there are many different cues to a two-dimensional image that suggests 3D. From many discussions of this topic over the years my belief is that different people pay attention to some cues more than others and do so without any conscious effort and that really means people don't see the images the same way. Like Fred and Jannik, I see a lot of 3D in the GM 135 images and more than I do in GM 85 images, but I don't doubt that Holger sees it the other way. We are so used to other people seeing things the same way we do, that it is hard to understand that doesn't necessary hold for perceptions of 3D. Perhaps if we remember that any perception of 3D in a photo is of course an illusion (physically it is 2D), then perhaps it is easier to understand that this illusion may not be perceived in the same way it is by us as it is by others.

Looking at the images on a phone doesn't do them any favors.
At least on my phone, every 135GM photo looks flat and dimensionless, focused areas look so soft that I often wonder if it was misfocused, and the bokeh looks rather nervous. All this makes the subject basically blend into the background.
Sigma 135 photos look sharp, bokeh is smooth, and there's enough 3D to make the subject pop right out of the screen.

I almost talked myself into cancelling my pre-order because of this.

Then I look at them on my computer, and see the GM come to life.
I have never seen such a big difference between phone and computer viewing on any other lens.

"You "respectfully" disagree with my opinion but say that I'm being dishonest." ?
Maybe that is a language thing, but I don't see how I implied that you are dishonest. I wanted to state my honest opinion, which disagrees from yours. Nothing more.

Regarding the rendering:
It maybe that I like to add contrast to my images. Maybe looking at images ooc would get me to your conclusion. However, without images side by side, with the same magnification, PP to similar contrast, I am not sure at all of a general conclusion determining the 135GM to be more "3D", whatever that means.

Fred and Guy, and company...

what do you feel is an idea 4 prime lens kit, now?
I currently have 1.4 native sony 24/35/50/85. And a 55 for casual stuff.
I feel that one of these 1.4 glasses should go, just to be reasonable.
I shoot people.

with the excellent MFD on the 135, it's going to be an interesting call!
It probably focuses closely to what a 105 does, I would say, right?

Cheers

My kit will be 24 55 90 and 135, along with 16-35 and 60-600 and my 24-105 might go since I've only used it a couple of times since I bought it. I shoot people, cars and planes
