Snowy canyon moments in Arizona and Utah this year. This has been a winter with more opportunities than usual in the southwest.
Some places which haven't seen real snow for the past 10+ years, now had a snow blanket that lasted at least part of the morning after.


1.The morning after a snowfall in Utah.

2.The falling snow was hiding everything - same rocks as above. There were already 2 feet of fresh snow to walk through.

3.Backlit fog patches after sunrise in Southern Arizona. The big melt was about to begin when the sun was able to clear. The snow was melting so quickly and falling off the trees and vegetation that it sounded like rain. Sometime around 10am there was very little evidence of snow on the plains.

4.Quiet morning in January in Northern Arizona.

Wow, amazing shots.

Last time I went to the grand canyon is in December, but it's a sunny day. Never thought about the snowy canyon is so beautiful.

Yes it's beautiful in canyons with snow. It doesn't happen often, there might be just a few special days in the season with great snow, but even a little snow will make a difference.

I have spent some nice snowy days in Grand Canyon in winter, this is from a few years ago. You need to plan the timing because otherwise the snow will be gone, it doesn't last long

The fresh-snow look in the first shot really appeals to me. Very beautiful spot with unique conditions. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome captures. The snow looks very clean and fresh, and I live the shot with a snowfall a lot. The one with the tree is also great. I guess I would frame the tree to the left (or right) to show more of the canyon behind it, but that's just me...
