Every time I think I can make do with my old Zeiss 21/2.8 ZF I see a photo like that crazy sunflower! Oh Boy. What a lens!
I think that the Voigtländer FE lenses are the native FE lenses, which will most closely retain the pleasant handling an user experience of the Zeiss ZF lenses.
Fred - is that your typical global sharpening in LR?
It depends on the aperture and lens used.
If aperture is smaller than f/8, I typically increase the "detail" slider to compensate for diffraction. (use as much at "75" for f/16 images)
If the lens is razor sharp (like the 135/1.8 GM), I usually lower "amount" to 40 (even wide open). I should probably lower the sharpening "amount" for the CV 21/1.4 from f/2.8 to f/5.6.

Thanks; I find proper sharpening an ongoing challenge.
I'm always interested in seeing how good photographers manage it.

I'm extremely impressed by the IQ of this lens. The colors, tone and resolution are just incredible.
Here is a sample at f/1.4. Very high resolution and contrast wide open...
You've likely just convinced me to buy this lens with that shot
It seems these days I double up on prime focal lengths, typically having a compact, but slower version for travel and a faster, larger/heavier version for times where fast speed is needed and the weight/size are not too much of a concern.
I have the CV21/3.5, Lox 21/2.8, and could be getting the CV 21/1.4.
Maybe I should own all three!?

I was also testing it for flare resistance last night and this morning with the sun low during sunset and sunrise and the CV 21/1.4 performed great.
Oh man you are putting the cherry on top for me buying this lens with those kind of sunset shots.

I have had this lens since Friday but haven’t taken any pictures with it yet, the only lens I used over the weekend is the Sony 100-400 .
Start to get to know it. Mount it on for 2 weeks and don't change lenses.
When you don't need high res., the 31mm (crop mode) gives you enough distance for shooting less distorted environment portraits and all that micro-contrast will be there!
Besides the technicalities in practical use where the CV21/1.4 differs from the 24GM? My intended use would be to combine landscape excellence with some astro capability and low light walkaround in a travel friendly package. Currey inclined towards the GM as it seems a better fit within my CV21/3.5, CV40/1.2 and FE55/1.8
I did not wake up this morning thinking about buying another lens wide lens because I have the Loxia 21, 24 gm, 12-24 G and 16-35 GM.
After reading the Loxia 21 vs 25 and then this thread I made an offer on a Loxia 25 on Ebay and probably would have got it the guy is from Austria.
Then I spent an hour reading all the stuff and your comparisons between the Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 and Loxia 21 & 24 GM.
I cancelled my offer for the 25 Loxia and ordered a new Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 from BH with a 3 yr drop spills warranty since the lens seems to have unseated the Loxia 21 which is saying something.
I will sell my Loxia 21 and a 2nd set of Breakthrough 52mm CPL, night sky and the ND's and adapt the Loxia 85 to my 82mm filters if I ever want to use a cpl and the others. That is if I keep the Loxia 85. I like it a lot I have had two but I never use it or my 85 1.8.
Since 62mm is an oddball size I ordered a 67mm Breakthrough cpl and night sky filer for my 24 GM and a step up ring from 62 to 67 and will utilize my breakthrough brass step up rings for my 82mm ND's and GND's.
Now I hope that we see a 14 or 15mm GM, Loxia or preferably Voigtlander if they can duplicate what everyone is saying about the Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 and can only hope it is 67mm but they probably will not be. My 12-24 G would go down the road at that point if the lens was faster and as good and hopefully better.
