Wow, I have been gone from FM for almost a year! UNDER this image I'll share just a little about why and what has been up for those interested or have asked... Thank you to the various FM followers who have reached out to me in many ways!

IMO, there is almost never a bad time to shoot the wonder of ocean surf! Even gray days can be the making of surreal surf dreams! 🌊 ✌🏼

A single exposure (intentional camera movement - panning - was used to create the in-camera, slightly painterly effect).

The benefits of the future of processing is now, and for sheer quality, and especially for printmakers it is absolutely incredible!
The short of it is that my mom passed away last year, then COVID hit and the workshop portion of my business took a hit (like everyone) and required me to do more hourly work (I have very fortunately been blessed to be able to do critical print post-processing, more than full time for fine art nature gallery photographers wanting top quality - or people doing exhibitions or other photographers just needing a print or two done - under strict confidentiality agreements for over a decade). This is always a huge blessing I am so thankful for (nothing beats pushing your skill sets into the cutting edge/twilight zone 12-16 hours a day/6 days a week) but at the expense of less time to work on my own work or all those educational materials on the way…
Next my beloved sister got terrible cancer out of nowhere! After helping as much as my new wife and I could, she finally passed on 2-3 weeks ago. There were so many other challenges in 2020, I won't even begin… My wife was even in the ER a couple days ago.
BUT, I choose to stay positive and keep faith no matter what the circumstances in life!
Barely looking at social media this last year I only posted a few here and there on IG and sometimes Facebook.
For now the main gallery post-processing gig has slowed, workshops have gratefully picked up fast (with lots of new ones) and I am finding incredible solace photographing the Florida Coastline almost daily when not traveling!
*I hope everyone here, their family, loved ones and friends are doing well and are safe during these very challenging times for so many.
Mark, My condolences to you and your family. I can only imagine the testing time you have gone through. Hopefully, the silver lining behind the dark clouds is not too far away.
I'm sorry for your loss, 2020 can't end soon enough for most of us. Mesmerizing photo, I like everything about it especially the lighting and movement.
My condolences. This past year has been bad enough. I can't imagine how much worse for those who have lost loved ones.
Your images inspire me. I am retired near Santa Barbara and I'm going to start spending a lot of evenings shooting waves at the beach. I desperately need a project and I can't think of anything more calming and peaceful.

2020 has been a though year for many of us, especially in the US.
The challenge is to stay positive and focusing on things that we can influence.

Mark-what a terrible year. I always appreciate your positive attitude and missed you presence on the forum. Hopefully the vaccine will turn the economy around.

Life is precious because it is limited. Given that your mom and sister are terribly missed by you - they likely lived it well. Keep on with the faith and positive attitude.
I've missed your presence and inspiration. So sorry for your losses and challenges in this terrible year. Hopefully the new year brings improvement for all of us.
