I had wanted to go the Wave for over a year prior to taking this photo. I learned all about the process and drove and stayed nearby for days before getting a permit in person. After the 3 mile hike to get to this view of the wave flooded with water I almost dropped my camera gear in excitement getting out my ND filter.
My photography has evolved through the years, I started out owning a photo studio doing portraits/weddings etc. Then got so burned out I sold all my gear and took a long hiatus. I got back into it about 6 years ago and while it has evolved again and I've gotten lazier with it, this is when I was very excited about it - this is about 5 years old, but still one of my favorites.
Many of my old pictures, I find so many things I would have changed about it - exposure, composition, editing etc. But this one I don't think I would've changed anything. But that said, always open to constructive criticism as I'm getting excited about my photography hobby again and I will always have more to learn and room to improve.
This is an excellent image of the Wave. My two visits, in 2006 and 2007, walk-in permits were easy in March, not so anymore. In 2006, I was the only one trying for a walk-in. In March, 2017, there were over 200 people trying...no I didn't get a permit.

Thank you. Isn’t that crazy how much things change. You were able to see it so long ago, that’s awesome.
Love the shot overall. Very intense view and composition.
Just one nit-pick. I see what looks like the classic Canon burlap shadow noise in some areas. I'm probably seeing something else, since I can't imagine those areas would need to be pushed much in exposure. I noticed this right away, before reading what camera was used. I put up with the same thing on my older Canon cameras.
This would have been an easy scene for exposure blending though, if such a thing is your cup of tea.

Absolutely fabulous file! Congratulations on such a beautiful image from this place.
Technical question: are you an a calibrated monitor for general web viewing (generally mellow lit defused light room/workspace, 2.2 Gamma, 6500 White Point, 120-130cd/luminance/brightness.
Based on those parameters the image looks very bright (clipping) and I think a version could really benefit from a raw adjustment to where the white end is not clipping, maybe the mid-tones come down a little. That and applying some great noise reduction to the aforementioned noise in the bottom reflection, as well as the dust sensor spots cloned out and you have a winner!!
Excellent shot of the Wave! I was just at South Coyote Butte checking out the mini-Wave and enjoyed the visit. They are apparently going to up the daily permits to the Wave to 64 per day which will make that location a madhouse. Sad to see as it will definitely impact the area and the ability to get shots like this.
