Repair or just replace.
The VR on the af-s 24-120 f/4 I took the shots above, has stopped working. I have done the usual contact cleaning etc. and it just won't fire up. Would it be cheaper to just replace it with a (excellent condition) used one for $375-$400 or to send it off to Nikon for repair?

Up until about three years ago I shot Nikon DSLR's since the D70 introduction. I then moved to the Z system ( Z9 and Z50) and just recently went full OM system (OM-1's). I noticed my old D200 sitting in the cabinet last night so I charged up the battery and just went into the backyard to see what it would feel like. First off I wasn't prepared for how foreign everything felt. But it didn't take long to get the feel back. The biggest thing I noticed was the AF system. Hard to imagine I used to shoot weddings with this body And the lack of any VR was the next thing I realized I now take for granted with the newer bodies. But it was nice I could open the NEF's through DxO Pure Raw 2.
We're leaving shortly and heading west, passing through Arches and Bryce. Crazy as it sounds I'm thinking of packing this body and the 35 1.8 and the 105 AF-D macro along with my OM kit. Might be interesting.

Call APS and see what they say. They replaced my 70-200 VRII's focus motor for ~$650, which is pretty much what they quoted. The lens came back in completely refurbished condition, and in much better shape than any of the similarly priced used copies at the time. I vote repair if it's at all close to replacement costs.
