I went back to the Wallula Gap this afternoon and enjoyed the sunshine. I hiked around more than I did yesterday, making my way west until I could see Twin Sisters from above. It was a beautiful afternoon despite the cool wind. It was so peaceful that I decided to lay down and take a short nap, taking in the sounds of the wind as it lulled me to sleep. Eventually, I started heading back and just by dumb luck, made it to my favorite sagebrush at the perfect time. The hillside to the east had a shadow being cast from the hillside to the west. But there was just enough light to create a natural spotlight. It was perfect and I'm thankful I was able to capture it.

From my street today
D850, af-s 24-120 @ 24mm, f/5.6, 1/320, iso 64
The exposure difference between the foreground and background was extreme. The fact that I could fit it all together really highlights the D850's great dynamic range.

I have photographed this sagebrush many times over the years and I always have to snap a picture of it when I go on the hike it's located at.
I love the detail of your shot. I have that lens and use it all the time with my D500. I think that it hits way above its' weight.

New old dSLR on the way.
Years ago I upgraded from my d7000 to a d750. Some of my best work was done with that camera. But, one day GAS got to me and I traded it in on a new D850. (imho) the D850 is the finest dSLR ever made and I still use mine all the time. But, I miss the size, weight, and simplicity of the d750 so I pulled the trigger on a used one with a 24-85 used today from B&H. Should be here Thursday, I can't wait.

Know the feeling - although I really enjoy my D850, still held on to my D7200 for a couple of reasons. One is the smaller, lighter form factor. The other reason is sentimental, as this camera and a 70-200 f4 was my primary when shooting all of my grandsons (3) Little League games. Gave me many great images that I shared with other folks who had their kids or grandkids playing.
Hope it gives you many years of great service and enjoyment.

Camera and lens came in today and they were both mint. I will buy used from B&H again.

I have not posted in this thread in a long time. Glad to see that is still running! It's been frigid with feets of snow here in N.E. Ohio. This image is along the shores of Lake Erie.
