I finally got a chance to go to Canada to photograph polar bears at the start of last month. I booked it about 3 years before but obviously things got in the way. I felt so lucky that the timing allowed it to take place this year and that I got into Canada ok. This trip was a bit of a gamble because the bears start leaving as soon as the ice forms in the hudson bay by Churchill and you want to go late enough to get some snow but not so late that the bears have gone. Luckily for me, we managed some snow (more would have been lovely) and plenty of bears and it was a wonderful experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I can thoroughly recommend it and I still feel very relieved it all worked out this year.
Here's a selection from my trip. Everything below is shot on a Nikon D5 with 180-400mm or the D850 with 500mm PF.
