As I have said before, I love the versatility of this lens. When I went out the other day, I wasn't sure if I was going to see birds, bees, or bugs. I saw a bit of everything. These images were taken that day with the Z9 and 100-400mm S lens.

It was a good day for the Pelicans hanging out at the Hagerman reserve. The Z9 served me well nailing them from even far off. The 100-400 with the 1.4xTC does a fine job. But I may be looking forward to later in the year as I'm considering adding that coming 180-600 for some extra reach. The Kildeer walked nearly up to me to intimidate me to leave the area as they do that when protecting their eggs.

You can tell by now I am not a bird shooter or Wild life shooter. I am too slow by the time I have camera ready they are long gone . And they don’t comply my composition so there.

Last night I went out to a field with my 200-500mm and 100-400mm with hopes of determining how different they are within the 200-400mm range from an IQ perspective solely. I was hoping for some birds but it was quiet on that front.....and that's where I knew the 100-400 would shine. When there's nothing much to shoot in the air or water, there's always the close MFD to enjoy. My apologies for those who don't like seeing insects create more insects.......I honestly had nothing of interest otherwise! I didn't spend much time editing these and I'm showing them for interest-sake only - not sure I need these on my website lol.
Interestingly with the comparison, my 200-500mm still holds its own IQ-wise.....it's very close in sharpness (sometimes better) and has slightly smoother bokeh than the 100-400mm.
