Jon, took me some trial and error to figure it out. My first mistake was a black background . I finally, shot the two glasses together, one was empty and the other was completely full. I loaded the photo into photoshop, twice ( two separate files). I them copied the full glass over the empty one and the empty glass over the full one. I then erased the parts I did not want. Probably a better way, but that was the only way I figured it out

That's a brilliant way of doing it! I was thinking water, oil, and water-based and oil-based food coloring. I was dreading the mess it was going to make, and trying to find oil-based food coloring seemed tricky. Then I thought about clear gelatin and layering it with colored gelatin, but I figured the condensation on the glass after taking it out of the refrigerator might be tricky. I finally gave up on the idea and was trying to brainstorm something else.
