p.1 #1 · Belted kingfisher prepping for migration north
A male belted kingfisher spent a few weeks at my local park pond as he voraciously fed in preparation for the trip north. So many opportunities to photograph these amazing birds. Tucson, AZ.

Wow, great shots. Those guys are very shy up in WA. There are a couple at the lake my wife and I paddle board and I have a hard time getting within 100 ft. of them.

Thank you! They are shy, but I'm fortunate the pond is small, in a public park and by watching it, I saw its favorite perches and just sat and waited for it to come to them. If someone walked by it would fly, but eventually come back!

Beautiful shots and well taken. We have the "Sacred Kingfiher" here and would love to see the belted. Nice work.
Danny.
Thank you! And I would love to see a Sacred Kingfisher, beautiful bird (I just looked it up). Thank you again!

Really a nice set, Jeffry. I typically prefer frame filling subject isolation but I'm loving that last shot. Well done.

Great shooting Jeffry on this challenging subject. You got some great dive images! I also really like the last image with a little less of the log on top perhaps but it is a nice open comp

Thank you! I like the crop idea! Sometimes I just keep things in the original dimensions without experimenting.
