Got to go up north and visit both Big Sur and Yosemite for the first time even though I've lived in Cali for 25 years. Amazing places and this lens is a stunning performer. I'm disappointed I couldn't enjoy the 70-200 g ii but the 20-70 g is simply amazing and my copy feels sharp from end to end. Anyways here are some images I ended up taking.

Yes, #3 is a good shot. Not one of the typical views, and the clouds add a lot! Good timing!
most landscapes are just being at the right place at the right time. the sunrise was blocked by the heavy cloud coverage but that presented an opportunity for other shots to be taken. Thanks for the kind comment!
Given that this lens was not out yet I bought the relatively light Sigma 16-28/2.8 and 28-70/2.8 for my A7C. Like the f/2.8 and each is thinner and about the same weight so I originally ignored this lens. Now that it’s out and I’ve moved to the new A7CR for travel and I’ve seen some stellar results I’m wondering if I should reconsider?
Has anyone done any event shooting with the f/4 with people? That is why for zooms I typically gravitate to at least f/2.8 when I need flexible focal length. Have plenty of small f/2 primes and faster, larger f/1.4 and f/1.2 primes, to pair with any lens but is the f/4 zoom any good with people so I don’t need to bring a prime along? Especially at the wider end if I need to take a small group of people?
I've been interested in this lens since its introduction, finally rented one for a week. I like the size and balance on the RV much more than my 24-105. The extra 4 mm fits my needs too. Now to find a good used copy...
I finally got around to buying a minty used copy of this lens. I haven't used it much, but easy enough to carry on a a7RV when walking around. Will bring on trip later this week.
Thank you for this thread. I’ve been considering this lens because a lot of people have praised it and many have said it’s a good fit on the A7CR and A7CII bodies. My question to the group that expresses my reservations is how effective is it when used for people and not landscape shots? In this thread I see only one image that has two people in it and no others. I’m currently using the two Sigma f/2.8 Contemporary zooms at 16-28/2.8 and 28-70/2.8 that are slightly lighter for my compact bodies. I own the Sony FE 24-70/2.8 GM II as well but it’s not as small as like. I use that lens on my A7RV where it super solid but do want a lighter zoom for the A7CR.
With people the subject of the image I still lean toward a prime or at least an f/2.8 zoom. What do others think? My experience with the 24-105/4 G also reflects my experience. Thank you.
First 2 days with this lens and I'm really enjoying the versatility. Did some basic tests and it seems to beat out my 28-60, 28-200 at shared focal lengths and matches my 16-35pz.
