Some spontaneous portraits I took of my best friend's grandma Marcie while visiting extended family in Wisconsin this last week. This woman is wonderful and makes me very grateful to have such loving people in my life.
Canon 5D MKIII, Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 lens, natural light with a white reflector.
These are great! I love how you always seem to get a perfect
matching tone for a background...I am going to pay more attention to that for my own shots...Well done!
Personally I would've liked a touch more depth of field here just to keep the nose in focus, but I've just been on a shoot everything at f/8 kick lately too so I'm biased that way.

Thanks Joel! Small details like that add up to making a big impact in portraits, and I hope it makes a big difference in your work.

I appreciate the feedback. I used to avoid shooting wide open in most instances and for many years refused to shoot wide open, but lately I have been enjoying doing to opposite lately and have been liking the results quite a lot. I took the time to master following the "rules" of portraiture, and now I'm intentionally loosening up a bit.
I really like these Daniel. As far as DoF in my opinion if the eyes are sharp all is good. If it were a photo about noses then... well you get the point.

Voted.
Thanks a lot man! It's such a subjective detail, so I understand both sides when it comes to DoF in portraits. Either way, I appreciate both views on the matter.
