On a whim I checked KEH and they had a brand new silver one at $1599. I couldn't believe it. I ordered it and got it within a day. Brand new. I can't believe I waited a year.. I guess I was patient.

Called my local hunt photo shops today and they basically said each store was at 120-200+ wait list. They're getting very small shipments at an almost 2 week cadence. I want to give my wife my X100F so decided to go for a X100V off of ebay for a what was basically it's MSRP in 2020 (2000 exposures). Don't love it but if any of my X100VI pre-orders hit then I'd likely just relist the X100V I have coming.

The V is pretty easy to find here for 1200-1300 if you’re a little patient.

I'm just an amateur photographer. Mostly just taking pictures of my toddler, etc. But, my x100vi that I also preordered in like Feb or March (from a MA based shop, not b&h) just arrived.

I have a used X-T5 that I am enjoying, but am finding myself with the same questions many seems to have... do I really need both for my rather simple, unprofessional needs?

The size is very compelling for the x100vi... but I am also using my X-T5 to digitize my film negatives...

Anyway, just thought I'd add my conundrum to the list.

Also in MA, mind if I ask where?

Fred, the only thing I’d say to that point about the specialness of shooting with a fixed lens is that you can get that by putting a single prime on a small body like the XT5, too.

I had a chance to shoot with one of the earlier X100 models, and I liked the camera quite a bit. I was sorely tempted, in part because it reminded me of some of the old-school 35mm cameras that I shot with many years ago. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that there were few situations in which it would provide enough of an advantage over a small ILC body with a prime to justify buying it. (Plus, I can choose _which_ “fixed” focal length I want to use with my XT5.)

I still like the concept of the X100 cameras a lot, and can sort of see it as a second body to accompany a ILC Fujifilm body.

I pre-ordered from Kenmore Camera about 2 weeks ago and got mine yesterday.
I had one about 6 months ago, loved it, took it to Peru and I'd say it gave me some of the best travel/street shots I've ever taken.

At the time I had a Q2 and a Q already and wanted to consolidate and hadn't tried the Q3. Sold the x100 and Q's and bought the Q3. After a few trips it was obvious I don't like shooting the Q3 much, I mean, it's as big as my M with a 28 Summilux attached almost, so it doesn't make sense for me. (I usually bring an m and or a fixed lens body for travel)

I just couldn 't stop thinking about the x100vi.

I agree with the post above regarding the AF-C, it works really well for me (with wide tracking), especially for street, for quick focus on faces.

I also agree that there is something special about shooting a fixed lens body, you're forced to think different, like shooting an RF. This lens, with this sensor on this body though, is really fun.

Nice to have it back in the stable.

I agree about fixed lens cameras. That is why I have been patiently waiting for an RX1Riii. That said I tried 2 x100Vi's when they were first released. Those were my first Fuji camera's. There are many things I liked about the cameras but at the end of the day the AF frustrated me (have Sony's most recent cameras currently). Has there been any updates to the Fuji X100Vi's since they rolled out that have brought the AF closer to today's Sony cameras. I'm not trying to stir the pot. Like I said there are many things I really liked about that camera and since Sony appears to think the A7c cameras should fill that niche (which they don't). I'd be willing to give the Fuji another try if AF has been improved.

Little late to the party here but just wanted to document my journey to the X100VI if it helps anyone else's decision making.

When the X100VI was announced last February I was intrigued. At that point I'd never even heard of the X100 series, and had been using my Sony A7C for about a year and a half. 90%+ of the time I was shooting with the FE 35mm 1.8. There wasn't anything wrong with it, to the contrary I'd built up a nice collection of E-mount lenses and was happy with the shots I was getting but it felt somewhat soulless? Sony's AF system is effortless, but kind of in a bad way since it never misses, and the glass/sensor yield sterile and flat-feeling images that need a good deal of work in LR to inject some character. In those regards, the more compact fixed-lens Fuji with its film simulations seemed like a nice way to get some feeling into the hobby of photography for me.

Of course, the X100VI immediately sells out and is impossible to get. I spend the next several months bouncing around various forums and the first few waves are going for $2500+ on resale. Fuji announces the limited edition which is a fiasco with bots flooding the site on launch day. I even try the Best Buy "trick" for a couple of weeks with no success.

Having committed to the ~$2000 an X100VI would run after taxes, I start looking at alternatives that are actually attainable. The Leica Q2 comes up as another fixed lens camera, and I don't know anything about Leica at this point but people seem to really love the image quality and the only recurring gripe is the price. Fair enough, but Q2's are floating around $3500 on the used market and I can afford the jump so I get one. Thanks to the FM forums I'm able to also get a sealed X100VI for basically MSRP a month after the Q2 arrived. Lots of back and forth handwringing ensues because my $1100 A7C has rapidly spiraled into a ~$5500 outlay between these two cameras. Again, it's not the money itself but who needs two fixed lens cameras and surely that money could be doing something more useful? I sell the X100VI to a friend who's also getting into photography, committing to the "superior" Leica product.

The 28mm lens of the Q2 is just not a good fit for me, and after 6 months of trying to fit it into my shooting life I just admit defeat and sell it. In this time I pick up a second X100VI (in black this time) because I feel FOMO over letting go of it the first time. The Q3 43 comes out right as my frustration with the Q2 is hitting its peak, and given my issues with the 28mm focal length I think a 43mm will do the trick. Great camera, but again I can't get out of my own head about the price and wanting to baby this device because it's so expensive and high-end. For comparison, I was ruthless with my A7C. Sony said weather sealed, and I was off to the races. I shot that thing in driving rain, sleet, snow, sand, rainforest, you name it. Even though the Q3 43 (and the Q2) are also weather sealed there's just something psychological about taking such a pricey item out into the elements.

The Q3 43 has now moved on to a new home, and I'm committing to using the X100VI for the rest of 2025. This was the camera I wanted a year ago, and I want to trust that I had the right idea at the time. A fixed lens, compact, bring-it-everywhere camera with the character of film sims and a less robotic AF system is what I'm hoping will allow me to grow as a photographer. Anyway we'll see if it plays out that way but long story short, sometimes you just have to get out of the analysis paralysis. Make a decision and stick to it. People are producing excellent images out there with the X100V and VI so there's no reason to believe it will limit me.

I know what you mean. I've owned x100f, x100v, Q, and Q2. While I like the experience of using the Leica better than other brands, on the original Q the 28mm was too limiting. When I got the itch for the Q2 I bought the x100v to try and fill that need, but with out luck. I enjoyed the Q2 and with its sensor the 28mm made sense as I could crop in to what I wanted and still had wider when needed. But it didn't have the features I needed and to tell the truth my X-T5 and other cameras allowed for shooing from low angles and had much better autofocus. While I enjoyed the Leica experience, my other cameras took better pictures in more situations. I ended up selling my Q2 Reporter as the only reason to keep it was pride of ownership. I bought an x100vi here and when USPS gets their act together I will have it. It was supposed to be delivered several days ago, but is still "moving though the system". I think I'll get alone much better with the VI and it's 40mp sensor that will give me the room to crop when 35mm isn't tight enough. That and now having IBIS! My hands shake at times and it's becoming more of a must have. To me the x100VI will be the EDC and my bigger cameras will continue to be my planned photo shoot tools. Good Luck with yours!

Thanks! Hope you enjoy yours as well. One very curious thing which you won’t see much on FM but if you use any other social media you will see, is that many novices are coming to the X100 or Ricoh GR as their first proper camera. Thus, the technical and artistic quality of the produced photos isn’t necessarily at the level of the average Leica photographer, who I would wager has been taking photos for longer and because of the expense they take their photography much more seriously.

This may be an unfair generalization but I actually started to have doubts about the X100VI itself because of the kinda pedestrian pictures I was seeing on social media. However, I started paying more attention to who was doing the shooting and found superb X100 photos. It mollified me that the camera is technically competent, it just happens to have a lot of hype around it which draws in novices who are still learning things like framing, composition, lighting, etc. I’m no HCB but I can see my own photography has made major strides in the past 3 years, and I see in many X100 shooters the me of 2022 that was just starting out.

This made me chuckle, given that many Leica shots I've seen are clearly by people more concerned with owning a Leica than developing photographic skills.

It does seem to be a problem with some x100/GrIII groups that all people care about is what film recipe that's being used so they can instantly have skill to take a picture. I'm also tired of seeing everything in the same look as faded 70's prints. Nothing wrong with it if that's want you're in to, but not my style. With the GR it seems to be very high contrast B&W that was the fad. I did like the B&W images I took with the GRIIIx, but the popular images pushed things too far for me. So I agree it's hard to judge some camera models by what some people post.

Nothing wrong in what you can get out of the 40mp fuji sensor. I've made pictures I liked with the X-T5, but was also happy with the 26mp fuji sensors. I guess it's not saying much for me, I like my current Canon and Nikon, and loved the looks from Leica, GRIIIx, and other cameras I've owned. I trend to edit my raws similar to what I got from Leica.

For sure, from where you are in skill level you'd probably call my Q3 photos amateur

Check out the X100V/VI content on IG and Reddit though, they're often the most mundane pictures of a park bench or a row of buildings, but glammed up with the latest Kodak Gold or Cuban Negative film sim. And they have hundreds of likes!

Am I out of touch? No, it is the children who are wrong.

Anyone have a recipe they like or recommend for Disney World? Will be shooting raw + jpeg, but thought it would fun to have a nice look for the shots.

Thanks!

Specifically I'd suggest #7 or #15. The Portra and Gold sims have a nice warmth to them that remind me of going to Disney with my family in the 90's. My dad had an EOS 650 and used a lot of Gold 100 and Gold 200 since you could find them everywhere for pretty cheap.

For what it's worth, the feedback that I've gotten from previous users of the FXW Gold recipe is nearly universal that they like mine better

https://www.scotttuckerphoto.com/blog/my-kodak-gold-200-recipe-for-fuji-cameras

This is my favorite mono recipe, best shot overexposed about 2/3 a stop.

https://fujixweekly.com/2021/12/11/fujifilm-x-h1-x-trans-iii-film-simulation-recipe-ilford-xp2-super-400/

For the theme parks, I see a lot of folks using Vibrant Arizona or Bright Summer. Good comparison here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fujifilm/comments/14iptc5/bright_summer_vs_modified_portra_400_vs_vibrant/

Looks like your recipe was done on your X100V, and FXW recommends going down one level on the Color Chrome FX Blue value for X-Trans V sensors. Did you try your version on the X100VI or would you recommend modifying it?

I shot it as-is on the VI with no complaints...Fred likes it too. Feel free to modify it how you like, I won't come and find you to break your kneecaps...maybe...

Ritchie and I don't agree on much when it comes to film sims
