I made these boxes as gifts. The massive black walnut tree I cut down, and the birch died of old age. (it was about 6 feet in diameter when it blew over in a storm). I cut the walnut into 4.5" thick planks with a chainsaw attachment, and the birch bark I nailed to three-quarter inch plywood. Then I had to wait years for it all to dry. I made 12 of these boxes, but didn't keep any for myself. When my brother died in 2021 - this one was on his dresser.

Thats super cool. Black walnut is my favorite wood. I love the dead birch on top...Great look and craftsmanship!

Thanks Dan. I've been making items out of that tree for decades. Down to the last few planks now.
