From my initial research, the newer model 103b is supposed to have LESS shutter lag. It also has a sharper lens. (It is very sharp!) The vintage film sim was also a bit more magenta in the older model. (You can’t use the older sim in the newer camera)
Some folks like the old model for the old vintage sim and the more (edge) blurred images.
For anyone considering buying one. It is frustratingly (but endearingly) obtuse to use (see my earlier posts above). You can’t change sims without plugging into a computer and dragging the .bin file onto the micro SD card. I tried to do it using an iPhone, but the card didn’t show up in the files app. And the simple process of turning it on as well as the shutter lag is infuriating. But fun! Ha
Pro tip: I made a “BIN” folder on the SD card and stashed the 3 film sims in there. This way, I can copy-drag a .bin from that folder into the root directory without having to search my computer drive for the files. (Note that initializing the new .bin erases the .bin file from the SD root directory. But stashing them in a discreet folder keeps them alive and available on the SD.)

This camera has been popping up on my instagram ads for a while. I'm thinking it might be fun to get one for the 10 and 6 year olds. Does it feel like it might survive a drop or two?

Id pay extra for those options. There was a time it manual exposure was a given and af was the option lol
That goes against the design brief. It intentionally is meant to be as basic as possible.
re. ability to handle a drop? It is so light n weight w no moving parts I really don’t think there would be any issues. I would rate its chances of surviving a drop higher than my Z7!
Finally got out to shoot with the standard color sim. I tried to get a few similar shots so you can compare. All SOOC except I added +25 grain in Lightroom to smooth out the crunchy 8MP files.
Going forward, I think I'm going to mostly use the black and white sim. I really like the look of the B&W sim.

Nice. Have converted one of the colour sim images to b&w to see how it compares to the b&w sim?

For a 65 dollar re-usable camera, this thing is very nice!!
This camera has been on sale for 40% off at UO online since Monday. You can pick one up in store tomorrow (BF) for 40% off too.
I ordered an UO edition a few days ago and it will be here early next week. I actually went to the local store later that day to see if it's 103 or 103B... apparently all colors are 103B, either 103B printed on the box or with a sticker.
