p.1 #1 · Vøringsfossen, Norway

In the summer of 2024, I visited Norway, a truly spectacular and photographer's paradise. As a waterfall enthusiast, I was thrilled to visit Vøringsfossen, one of Norway's most impressive. Plunging 182 meters down the mountainside, the water cascades into the rugged Måbødalen valley near Eidfjord in the Hardangerfjord. Vøringsfossen has always been breathtaking, but the experience is now even more unforgettable thanks to the new bridge that opened in 2020. This metal bridge, spanning 47 meters across the waterfall, offers 99 steps for an awe-inspiring perspective.

The weather during my visit was initially partly sunny, but soon thick clouds, fog, and rain rolled in. While the metal walking platforms provided convenient access, they presented challenges for long-exposure photography. Despite the conditions, I managed to capture a few shots of this magnificent waterfall. There is also a trail leading down into the valley, offering the opportunity to photograph the falls from a swing bridge. However, this strenuous hike was beyond my capabilities.

Thanks for viewing and welcome all CC

Edit: Added one more image #8 that shows the bridge that spans across the waterfall.

Nice work. Must be good ice climbing there in the winter.

Looks like a very dramatic area, Parul, thanks for sharing. My favorite is the pleasing composition of beautiful falls in # 5 with the distant bridge providing scale, and # 8 showing that insane pedestrian bridge over the canyon - not sure I could walk that without having a panic attack!

I had to look this up as I have a business trip to Finland next summer and I am looking for some photo opportunities even in the neighboring countries (advice?). The place is indeed impressive but at least for me, challenging photographically. I have been to long and majestic waterfalls, but it's tough to compose a good shot that goes beyond documenting the place. Rather than capturing everything, close up shots work better and #5 & #7 work better at least for me.

Thank you, this is one waterfall but the best part is that there are so many different vantage points to capture several different compositions.

Thanks Jim, O I am quite sure this place receives ton of snow. The weather conditions really varies and the metal bridge is an awsome location to shoot if you can avoid people and have steady hands for a longer shutter speed.

Thanks Ross, appreciate your feedback. I agree about the pedestrian bridge. In fact, standing in the middle and looking down is scary. The force of water is unbelievable. I fixed a couple of things that I noticed after the fact but couldn't update the original upload. Hence, sharing in this post.

I agree, it is difficult to capture the beauty of the falls. That is why I had to capture from various vantage points and some closeup shots.
Actually if you are into Hiking, then you can stay at the hotel that is right behind where I photographed and hike all the way down into the valley to the swing bridge. Never been to Finland but I am sure there are amazing landscape images to be made there.

Thanks Rajan, it's an amazing location and what's interesting is that all this nature can be enjoyed without paying any fees to access them. Just like in Iceland.

Glad you enjoyed it. It's sometimes hard to translate the majestic beauty into photographs for a place like this.

YES! majestic photography Parul! Can't imagine the thrill you must have encountered when "among" the frame and to see it later "faux Parul"?? Yes bravo!
Rugged softness in a backdrop of emerald and gray!

Thanks Dan, Yes, it was truly an experience standing in the middle of the bridge and trying to photograph. The force of water is just incredible. What a beautiful place and how accessible they have made it for tourists, without any fees!

Perfect usage of the vertical format, I can really feel how tall these waterfalls are. Great stuff!

Thank you Except for image #5 everything is looking down and it's really hard to compose. They have made it very accessible for visitors to have an enjoyable visit.
