I have them and use them, primarily September through November. Depending on which area of Alaska you’re heading would dictate the need for one. If you’ll be coastal.. it would be worth bringing one. If to the interior, than most likely not needed. That said, there’s certainly no downside to having one. You will go through a few battery banks if shooting more than a few hours, which I find cumbersome. Personally, I like the Zeiss lens wipes. Since they’re iso based, they remove frost if I see any starting to form.. that solves any issues I may currently encounter.
I had the Sigma 14mm F1.8 lens before and it's a fabulous lens for astro. (a bit heavy though)
For a long period of time, Sigma 14mm F1.8 was the only wide angle fast prime available. (until Sony released the Sony 14mm F1.8 GM, but still, only available on Sony)

These are truly unreal -- amazing images!
My wife and I went to Alaska over 10 years ago, and traveled all over the place. I didn't do any night sky photography, but photographed so many other amazing things, I still marvel at all those images. I've had some amazing trips to amazing places in my 78 yrs., but the Alaska Trip was far and away the best travel experience I've ever had.
Thanks for sharing these wonderful scenes!
