I am wondering if anyone is using a sneak boat (lay-out) boat for photography? I spend 100s of hours in the kayak every year. I'm always looking for ways to get my camera lower. I have even created a 3' square floating platform that I made with 1.5" pvc and large pool noodles with a marine board on top. I have a 3/8" bolt attached to it for promediagear katana junior gimbal mounting and I tie it to the side of my pedal kayak. It floats with me. Friends think I'm crazy to have an A1ii and 600 f4 floating in the water. It works great. I have a Portkeys super bright monitor mounted on a ram mount so I can see what the camera sees. With left hand I move the camera while watching the display. In my right hand is a wireless remote. The result is floating hide-like images when in deep, deep water. However, it is cumbersome and I cannot really hide from my subjects. It's great for loons, but tough on skittish birds. I am oftentimes in water too deep for a Mr. Jan Gear floating blind, nor do I wish to try that with flippers.
I recently saw one of these for sale on FB. I think it could really work, especially with either one of their blind assemblies or probably better yet if I had a custom fabric blind made with grass attached. I think I would be able to use a small tripod or make a rig to bolt a gimbal to. It even has an option to add a small trolling motor to the back.
Watch the video in this link. I'm super close to buying the one of FB!
