p.1 #1 · Working with HHHR, question about results
We had some nice January sunsets and since recently deciding to NOT go back to FF (instead I rebought the OM-1.2 and 12-40/2.8 Pro II), I should experiment with HHHR to figure out the "when, where and how” to get the maximum IQ results from this feature.
I used my OM-5.2 & 9/1.7 Picture Mode is Muted, Sharpness 0, Contrast -2, Saturation 0, Gradation = Auto
Below are four files (JPG, ORF, ORI, TIFF) that have all been processed the same in DXO PL 9 (auto lens corrections i.e. vignetting, distortion, sharpness, etc, and I did Smart Lighting 14 & Saturation 15).
The TIFF was generated from the ORF exported as a 16bit/ch from OM Workspace 2.4.0, with whatever auto adjustments OMW makes to the HHHR ORF.
The differences between the TIFF, the ORI and ORF were expected by not the comparison to the JPG.
TIFF compared to ORI - more dynamic range, particularly in the orange/red specturm and sharper
TIFF compared to ORF - more dynamic range, particularly in the orange/red specturm and much sharper - ORF requires OMW sharpening engine
TIFF compared to JPG - slightly more dynamic range and slightly sharper - this was the surprise for me as the JPG seemed pretty good - better than the ORI
Curious if others have experienced the same results when comparing the TIFF from OMW to the OOC JPG ?
I have loaded the original JPG, ORF and ORI in a public dropbox folder if you want access to the original files as well as all images converted to full-size jpgs in case the compressed samples on FM don’t represent the differences properly
