I was out taking some snow shots with my R5 II loaded with a Lexar Gold 1TB CFx card last Sunday. The card had about 80 pictures on it I wasn't ready to delete so I did not reformat.
It was about 20 degrees and I was wandering for a couple hours. I'd get my shot (single shot drive mode), turn off the camera put it in the bag and look for the next. Towards the end of my session I got "Card 1 Full" or whatever, which would have be impossible. I could not review photos either. I then switch off the camera off for a few seconds and back on and all was good, I could take pictures and review ones I took.
I assumed it was a one-off glitch so I turned it off again. A few minutes later a Bluejay landed on a fence post near me. I quickly turned on the camera and "Card 1 Full." I went home after that.
My computer exported the photos on the card normally. I haven't had a chance to go shooting since but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this before. Does this sound like it was the card, the camera, or maybe just being in the sub-freezing temps for a couple hours? I'm going to reformat and see what happens. Hopefully it was just the cold.
1. what does the camera show for space on the card.
I don't have a Canon camera but I believe the camera will show you space of shots taken
2. do you delete photos from the card. I remember in windows the trash bin would be full
Just some things to think about. Good Luck.
You don't have a smaller SD card in slot 2 do you? If yes, when that card fills and you have it set to write to both slots you will get this. Totally lame IMO as it should allow you to keep shooting with the bigger card.

This is backup logic working as intended to protect the shooter from themselves. It pays to be smarter than the machine (and to have a backup card as big as your primary).
I noticed just yesterday that my CF Express card had created a file that works like the windows recycle bin. I had deleted a lot of pictures using DPP and had noticed that the available space on the card seemed way too low. Realized there was a new folder on the card retaining all the work I had "deleted". Deleted that folder (forgot what it was called) and all was well again with plenty of space. Maybe this is what is happening to your card?

Nah. I only use CFx in the R5 II because normally I only shoot wildlife and want max write speed.
