R7 Autofocus problem

p.1 #1 · R7 Autofocus problem

Hi. When I use AF spot or AF 1-point, the camera seems to autofocus on the selected square but contrary to what is being said in the documentation, the square does not turn green. Instead, there is always a grid of green squares appearing in the viewfinder and never at the same place. I can understand the phenomenon if we are using other AF options than the spot or the 1-point AF but why is this happening with these two options.

Regards.

Have you turned off Subject tracking (AF menu, page 1)?

Yes. Everything else is turned off: subject tracking, eye tracking, animal tracking, etc.

Do you activate AF via the shutter release or one of the back buttons?

Check your set up for back button focus in that button's submenu (press INFO) and see if you have it set to override the selected AF point with a zone AF option instead, or subject detection/tracking.

Pg. 872 in the manual. Some back buttons to which AF can be assigned, such as AF-ON, allow for additional customization via the 'INFO Detail set' option. Whatever AF related settings are set this way will override any AF settings that are different.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. It was in fact an action that was assigned to the AF-ON button that was causing the problem.

Best regards.

Yves.
