I've seen these birds at Wakodahatchee Wetlands many times but never really knew what they were. Yesterday a knowledgeable looking birder with binoculars and a logbook (makes him an expert to me) told me this was a variant of the Great Blue Heron, only found in this area. Certainly isn't blue.

Very nice image of the Great Egret in flight Jerry. They are similar in size to the GBH yet can't tolerate the cold so they always migrate.

Thanks Morris - I should have noticed the coloring on its beak! Never going to trust a guy with binoculars again

There is a white morph of the Great Blue Heron called the Great White Heron. We spotted one while we were in Key West many years ago.
