We had a recent carp die-off at the pond near my house, and it's brought a lot of Ring Billed Gulls. But one gull stood out as it was speckled brown and much larger than the rest. Here's the immature American Herring Gull that was traveling with the other gulls.
I had a rafter of Wild Turkeys roosting in the yard for the first time in a couple of years. I got this one during the end of blue hour after the moon had risen.
My first return trip to Mono Lake since my change of station to Edwards AFB in 1974. The local town of Lee Vining is pretty much unchanged, however, the lake itself has lost an enormous amount of water, and the Tufa tubes have been bleached-out over time. I've got to dig out my Kodachromes (ASA 25/64) and scan them at some point.
I'm staying out here to see and photograph the transit of UP 4014 (Big Boy) over the next few weeks...should be fun!
I finally was able to get back out to a sage grouse lek this year. It has been a lot of years since I was able to get out and watch the birds, and it was just as magical as I remember it being. I took too many photos but this one jumped out at me from the first morning.
