p.1 #1 · Super Takumar 8-element with six-digit serial number?
Hi everyone. I have a Super-Takumar 8-element 50mm 1.4 lens that has a six-digit serial number (128XXX). I have been trying to find out more info about the lens because it's apparently unusual to have one with a number shorter than seven digits. I'd love to think it's extremely rare and worth a fortune, but I doubt that and just want to know what's going on. Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Thanks for the reply! After a little more digging, I found that the six-digit serial number indicates that it was among the earliest of the Super Takumars, intended for the domestic Japanese market in 1964. That apparently makes it desirable to collectors. Not that I care -- I love the lens and have no intentional of selling it just to turn a small profit.

Mine is a seven-digit 141xxxx.
I had a quick look at eBay prices; the asking prices are all over the place; the selling prices are $200 to $300, with one selling at $380, with a six-digit SN. Many of them are described as rare early versions, but still have seven-digit SNs (and stupidly-high asking prices).

Thanks for the info. I've had this lens for a while, and I really enjoy using it. Not looking to sell it -- but I saw reference to the six-digit SN a while back and was just curious. The numbering on these lenses is crazy, and it's really hard to tell which ones are "rare" and which aren't. From what I see, they all perform the same.
Maybe I'll sell my rare one and then turn around and buy a common one for half the price!
