LA's new metro line D has just opened. Most of it underground. The construction of it was documented on an assortment of film!

^Friend's Ride the D shirt. I have one too lol 🙂‍↕️

The people at Metro LA really appreciate photography. Its official blog used to constantly feature train and transit pics tagged on IG🙂

You know you're "old school" when you still call the lines Purple, Red, etc.

Not sure why the MTA is aping NY, in giving our metro line letter designations. There's a good reason many metro system use a number/color combination.

The photos area great.

RTD 4 ever!

Thanks for posting the link! I think some of these pics are better than the one LA Times used in their article.

That group shot of the miners with the boring machine, on the Hasselblad site, is spectacular.

Did you notice the two men sticking out of it from the middle of the machine?
That would freak me out!

Yup, saw the workers sticking out of the boring face. An extremely impressive bit of engineering, and something I could not fathom operating. Would think a tunnel boring operator would be a rather esoteric title.

Perhaps because of my technical background, I've always been drawn to photos of people in their element performing work, the more mechanical, physical, and outlandish the better. Steam fitters, high steel construction, lumberjacks, forge operators, excetera. Bonus points if B&W, as to me, it lends a timeless quality to the capture.

I had a film camera to document my trips in college, but I started more serious photography doing daily construction photos with a digital P&S as I was saving them in a cd and fedex them as the internet connection was a slow dial up in the job sites...Now I don't that, but I have seen so many construction photos esp I like early 20th century NYC construction shots... B&W film makes the above shots more documentary...

Interesting story of the famous photo of how New York ironworkers eating lunch was photographed:

As an LA resident and a very new film enthusiast, seeing these lovely photos taken on film makes me so happy. There’s something so warm and nostalgic about them. Thank you so much for sharing this post!
