p.1 #1 · Question re: Lenscoat hoodie for Canon 500 f/4 IS II
Do they break in and become easier to fit over time?
I bought the Lenscoat Hoodie Size XXX recommended for the 500 mm IS II but it was so tight and difficult to slip on that I finally gave up and sent it back.
Any advice or alternative brand lens hoodie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had one of those hoodies for another lens (300/2.8) and did not find it very useful. Instead I have used Zeck lens caps. Lately you can consider the Zemlin hood/cap setup.

I've been using a LensCoat XXXL Hoodie on my EF 500/4L IS, since 2010. I also use a Don Zeck cap.
My Hoodie was never so tight as you describe. It does require some stretching, but not much more than you'd expect for a nice fit. I've been using the Hoodie over the hood, while the hood is wearing a LensCoat LensCover, since Day 1. My Hoodie probably has loosened up a bit, but not so much that I notice a big difference.
I use the Hoodie over the hood in shooting position, when I'm stomping around in the woods or at the beach, and I'm ready for action. Long story short, it keeps things clean, and when the time is right, I can whip it off and stuff it in a pocket, with minimal distraction.
I also use the Hoodie when the lens is being transported, to add some conformal cushioning, and to help keep dust at bay.
I use the Zeck cap pretty much all of the time, except when I'm out stomping around, ready to shoot. I don't use the supplied-handle for the Zeck, because without it, the lens conveniently stands on its nose, with the hood reversed.

Are you using it over the lens hood? I got the xxl to be used on the bare lens and it works great. For storage i can fit the lens and cap inside the hood, the hood wont lock in of course but it doesnt matter in the bag. I find the canon hood plus canon cap too fiddly.
