I've had a bunch of aerials to do for an Economic Development Corp and they have been chomping at the bit. The weather and winds have not been cooperative but Thursday was a perfect day. This is a shot of two large data centers, they are popping up all over the place these days........................

We have a giant META data center nearing completion in Temple and second data center planned south of Temple. We live in an area where our water supply is served by Belton Lake. We have had drought conditions for the last 15 years. I can't imagine how many brain dead people have been involved in these decisions. Who do you think is going to have their water shut off when the water level goes down in Belton Lake? Not the data centers. Stupid is as stupid does. Seems the Dallas and Houston area would be better locations, yet land and taxes costs are lower here.

Just remember, the US has about 4200 data centers. That is only about 50% of all the data centers in the world. Imagine that. Not a good stat. UK has about 500, and Germany is nipping at their heels. The expansion is rapid, and so is their use of energy, water, and land. Soon there will be very little of any of those. Lack of land and water is also lack of farming (fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, poultry, etc etc). Enjoy AI...

Farmland around Temple, TX is shrinking. The Temple Economic Foundation, a shadow city gov't entity to buy farmland to resell to industries, has bought and is buying farmland for commercial industrial uses. They recently sold a 100 acre farm for $1 million/acre, yeah, $100 million. A 300 acre farm with cropland and cattle sold for over $5 million 7 years ago to build a grocery distribution center. They are building an aluminum processing plant on the $100 million tract. I can only imagine how much water and energy that facility will consume. Oh, and it is a South Korean company. I bought my farm 22 years ago to get the heck out of industrialized Houston, TX. Guess I should have chosen West Texas.

Imagine you lose your phone when you travel?? I don't even remember my wife's and kids' phone numbers and we don't have a landline anymore.

Jim, I would take that little red Vette any day. The only problem is after paying $90,000+ to purchase the vehicle, it would be a stretch to keep that little 283 fuely running in that condition. A car like that deserves to be driven, often!

These are really sharp and clean Jim. JIII is growing like a "weed". "The Child Is Father Of The Man"..both the song and the poem Jim.

I had a 1962 Corvette that I built from the ground up and raced it at the local dragstrip. I believe the vette next to the subject is a 1962 or 1961...

Yeah I am ready to "go out" in style and get me one of these classics.
Nice Jim!

Ray,
The farms are disappearing at a very alarming rate here in Maryland.

I am surrounded by them but 1 neighbor could NOT pass up the multi-million dollar offer a developer offered. He was 73 and had enough. His sons were not interested in farming of an sorts!
His property was re-zoned from "Agri to Residential".

We have a China buying up farm land here!
Just fyi..rhetorical post.
Dan
"While China owns a tiny fraction of national farmland, its holdings in Maryland are concentrated in specific, sometimes strategic, areas...." YES!!! The East Coast version of "Cheyenne Mt" is only a few miles from me. Camp David also.

The was something that I thought of Ray. The car next to it is a "restomod", which I'm not a huge fan of. The '61 is all matching serial numbers, at $90,000, you would drive it on a beautiful Saturday morning to a car show. I'd hate to subject it to Dallas traffic and road debris.

JII and I didn't even photograph the lines of Lambo's and Ferrari's, it was definitely a candy store for car buffs. They had a Ford GT in there that was getting delivered early next week , sold for $3.6M. I'd want wings if I was shelling out that kind of money.

That '61 would be a fun car for sure. The 283 engine will last a long time, I had one in my '59 Impala. I don't know about the maintenance on that early fuel injection system. That Vette has enough power to make you feel sporty. The red paint makes it look fast sitting still.

Funny we allow Chinese companies buy land here but in China, there is no private land ownership. You build a house, you have the right to use the land for 70 years but the land doesn't belong to you. But they don't have property tax though...

From Canon Rumors: "The EOS R7 Mark II will have a backside-illuminated stacked sensor." Other internet rumors suggest DIGIC X + possible accelerator. This combination would almost eliminate my rolling shutter issue. I was excited until I saw the Native ISO was only 100–32,000. That is a no-go for me with my low light events. However, will the next R1/R3 have the stacked sensor? I am in if it does!

ISO 32,000 is not enough for you? I have never shot any sports, not even in day time, let alone indoor or evening. I am just curious.

Sounds like a dream camera for shooting birds, I wish Sony would make an APS-C camera like that. I just sold my Sony 600 f4 last week. I like my super light and compact 300mm f2.8+2X TC so much that I am willing to trade f4 for f5.6 at 600mm. When I had the 600 f4, I used a 1.4X TC on it 95% of the time, so it was basically a 856mm f5.6 lens for me. Now I have the 400-800 f8 to get me to 800mm, but at f8... It's all about trade-off and priority.

When I shoot football, I really don't have time to carry two cameras and lenses. I use zooms so I can shoot telephoto and close up. Some nights, I may have two games to shoot, so I have to be nimble and quick to get photos to the editor by 9pm. I could just take my 300 f2.8 but I would miss end zone shots. I was using the 100-400, but now I am using the super nimble 70-200 + 2X. For football in Central Texas, the end zones are back lit and quite dark. The fields are OK between the 35 yard lines, but the light begins to fall off from the 35 to the end zone. I have shot games at 1/1000 in the darker arenas.

The R6 Native ISO: 100 – 102,400

As I understand the technology, the larger full frame pixels and light sensitivity produce less noise than an APS-C with smaller pixel size.

Canon R6, 70-200 Z +2X:

ƒ/5.6
140.0 mm
Shutter 1/1250
ISO 25600

Those settings produced this shot in the camera.
