I had no idea grapevines got wacked to the nub - wow
Think about the lighting here. You have the light behind you lighting the subject, and the next two you are shooting into the light - the subject is back lit. Two very different conditions.

Yep. Every winter. The most fruitful shoots grow from one year old wood. Pruning is the single most important factor in vineyard management and vine health.
....
I understand that the lighting conditions are different, but the program is struggling to determine what color the shadows should be. It's guessing... incorrectly.

The problem images you show were shot with a Nikon.
The ones which are obviously perfect were shot not just with a Leica, but the most perfect of all Leicas - the M7.

There is your answer.
The M7 the most perfect of all? There is now a mouthful of breakfast all over my iPad.
(Although I suppose it’s a good job you didn’t hit the ‘8’ key by mistake. Typos can be dangerous.)
I’m not familiar with Nikon lenses, but that one is clearly a beauty. The clarity and the tones you’ve captured are remarkable. Lovely. (The location isn’t exactly bad, either.)

Oh man you captured the light so perfectly in these! Fantastic stuff!
Many thanks! Conditions were really nice that morning: frosty with a bit of haze, but getting absolutely blasted by the sun. The ground was literally steaming where the sun was hitting it through that archway - looked amazing!
A few weeks ago I picked up a Nikkor-O.C 35mm f2 to go on the F4. I've only shot b&w with that body, but on the 5DSR it has the same painterly rendering as your lovely examples. I need to run some color film through it soon
Nice product placement. Maybe Leica will replace your film scratcher if they can use Riley in an ad. "Dogs that know use Leica" Is Riley pointing to where Timmy fell into the well?
