We arrived today in Summerland, CA for a weeklong getaway from the Minnesota winter. We dropped our bags and walked down to the beach in time for sunset.
First two: Leica M11 + LLL 35/1.4 AA
Last one: Leica M11 + Voigtlander 50/1
I have "technically" better pics, but this one is more symbolic / personal. Jeff is the rock bulldog that has been driving the sport and has been such a key instrument in the rebuild of the Hinder Club, as well as the USHA alignment to St. Louis.
This is the first Pro Stop we've hosted since the new build, etc. ... but, it's that grit in his face (and my proximity to it) ... that reflects the intense spirit he brings.

I shot quite a few images in this location because I liked the background, the light, and that I could include a Gondolier to give my street portraits of Venice Carnivale some context.
SL3 50mm APO-SL summilux f/4.0
There will be a small Carnivale celebration here in Parma this afternoon. I will go and take some images. Won't be nearly as impressive as Venice however.

End of day glowing landscape in Tucson Arizona captured with a 70 year old Leica thorium 50mm summicron and a similar vintage photographer, note the theme. With good light the image capture with thorium glass can be remarkable. The lens being weakly radioactive is a glass type that is obsolete and no one anywhere is making thorium glass lenses. This one is a Leica 50 mm F2 summicron collapsible made in early 1950s on a Leica M11 EV1. even with 60 mp the detail for this old lens is remarkable, and the rendering is warm and compellingly different from other lenses. This lens can be safely collapsed on a M11 EV1. New purchase in Tokyo, now home a quick capture in good light from my driveway....Show more →
I was searching for one of these lenses for years, finally found one last year. It doesn’t disappoint, especially on the M11M. Mine is from the very first batch, within the first 100 made. Surprisingly the glass is spotless, no haze/fungus/cleaning marks. Sharp, yet a slightly soft glow wide open but gets contrastier and that summicron look quickly stopping down.
