Quite agree Dale - I do sometimes think the cameras profile might be raised if these images were included in the main FE images thread, Pros and Cons I am sure.
It will be interesting to see how the Q2 goes - bit of a wallet cruncher though!
Bristol Cathedral RX1RII -- not my finest hand held night shot at f2 - but not bad.
I like the idea of merging RX1 into the full frame forum. It might also work to merge the popular RX10 and RX100 and crop sensors into a new "less than full frame" forum. It would give a create a wider audience for the whole line. ...Show more →

Last night´s catch, the first one from the local little river this year. The definite sign that summer is here.
Every June I look at the mountains: How much snow is still left, is the river still running too high and too cold? Every year in early July I make en effort, but too early! Then, a week later the magic happens, the salmon are back in the river. The larger ones are the earliest risers, this one close to 3kg, the one that got away probably 6 or 7.

Really enjoy this thread. I was thinking of getting the RX1 and was wondering how it works as a street camera? I used to have a ricoh gr II and was thinking about getting the III, but the RX1 sensor has a quality that is on another level. Has anyone used a GR before that could offer a comparison?

I have not (GRx) but was planning to buy one but never did. The full frame sensor would offer you ~2 stops. This helps a lot.
The Ricoh users had always been “praising “ the film like “grain” output of GR images. They all are noisy which is quite evident at ISO400. With the RX1 you need to go to ISO1600 and up for that.

Thanks for the insight. I took a look at the GR raw files and noticed even at ISO 200 a decent amount of noise. I was wanting the GR for the IBIS, but shooting higher ISO's with the RX1 and a low amount of noise might offset that.
There is no need (IBIS). You have larger pixels in RX1 that are more forgiving than the smaller ones in GR.

I still use mine periodically, but mostly for family outings which I don't really share on here.
As too it's future, I still strongly suspect the line was "sold" to Zeiss for it's ZX1 iteration. With that seemingly shelved it remains to be seen if Zeiss reworks it or if Sony takes it back over and advances it. I hope its the latter as well, but I'm not hugely optimistic.

Gotta say it.
Where are all the RX1 shooters? Did they all defect to the Leica Q2 or are they all now changing lenses on larger heavy bodies? Sony is standing on the shore watching this ship sail. The RX1 looks abandoned both in hardware and software. It's not like there is no room for growth. The RX1 could use IBIS, a larger battery with bigger grip and some kind of Leica-like strategy to simulate multiple focal lengths, perhaps a larger sensor and a wider focal length like Leica. Perhaps clear zoom improved. The point is that the RX1 has a unique IQ signature and an superior compact form factor worth keeping. It is strange to me that it is now Leica steering this market instead of Sony. -- enough!
