I don't know why Sony refuses to update this camera. The A7c does not fill this void. They could leave everything the same. Just give me the new processor, latest AF, New menu, higher res LCD, and upgrade the one card slot. Done. Take my money I'm even OK with crappy battery life.

I think Sony now has 4 35mm primes (not RX1) in production. None at the time of the RX1 OG was released. They also have zooms in the range, and now there’s so much 3rd party options. And their Zeiss partnership seems dormant. Plus, I’d think they need a significant redesign—for the lens for faster AF, and the mechanical issues, IBIS, EVF and a better battery.
Having said all that, it’s one of the best lenses I’ve ever shot, and I have been waiting for version 3 for years…Always just love the small size + lens combo.

As above.
With all the 35mm lens choices the market for a fixed 35 isn't what it was in 2012.

Probably not happening.
I am more inclined to think that the fallout with Zeiss has stymied a new version. Sony certainly has experience putting IBIS into tiny bodies, at least with smaller sensors, in their RX100 series. Leica has nice IBIS in the Q2 but in a larger form factor than the RX1, and I am sure that many who currently own any of the existing RX1 series would consider a new model that had IBIS and the more modern AF engine.

The lens is an attraction for sure. But it's the form factor. That combination of 42mp matched to that lens in that small body. I know plenty of people like myself the have great 35mm lenses like the GM. But those are irrelevant if your looking for that form factor. That's why it is puzzling to me. In a struggling market segment. You would think it would make sense to update a camera like this that would not cannibalize anything else. Heck your not even re inventing the wheel. Most of the upgrades we are looking for have already been done for other cameras.

Here is one of my favorite examples of the the way this camera renders. I thought it was a frustratingly slow camera to use but its output certainly had that special sauce...

More squares, straight from the camera. Planning on using a 6x6 film camera in the near future, and am practicing square composition. Really, really enjoying it!
It's delightful to use on the RX1rII because it masks off the EVF so that it only shows you the square. Really nice.
