Minolta MD 35-70/3.5 macro. I have added eight photos taken today to the flickr set. Processed in LR5.3. All taken at f8 or thereabouts. I am very impressed with this lens which has to be one of the best lens purchases I have ever made.. It is sharp and only slight softening in corners but the bokeh is a little hexagonal perhaps for some tastes. It is very light and easy to handle on A7 with smooth zoom and focusing action. . Note interesting star flare from sun in one of these, with coloured halo.
That may be hopeful. I've been told by a dealer that it's delayed till May 2014 in the UK. Now I have the MD 35-70 as well as a Leica-R 35-70/4 and MD 24/2.8 I may demur on the 24-70 unless it turns out to be really good. Phillip Reeve wrote:
the MD 35-70 ist indeen a really nice lens.
I just sold my FE 28-70 to partially finance a FE 24-70 which should arrive at the end of January.

That would be really annoying for Sony, because lenses are their greatest weakness right now.
But Sony's realease date for the A7 was accurate so I hope for the best.
I can always cancel.

One thing though! The lens is so heavy that if you don't hold it with your hand while shooting, there is a visible gap between the camera mount and the adapter. So, probably not a good idea to carry this combo around your neck.
Edit: And it actually gives a lot less vignetting than on the D700, just as every other F-mount lens I've tried so far.
Hey Martin. There's some nice 3D going on in that shot. Knowing you use ACR like me (same version I believe) you should check the noise suppression tool it is *really* good compared to earlier versions. I know youve said you never reduce noice but try it, who knows you may like what you see
Future versions of DNG converter is likely to be better for A7 ARWs but so far I do not always like what I see from my shots with the A7. I find more noise than I expect at low ISO too. Comparing to Canon 5D2 that is.
My Contax 35/1.4 dont show any gap fortunately. But it makes the camera front heavy for sure. But I did not mind too much having it on the shoulder for an hour this afternoon. I have a few adapters by KIWI which I've learnt to trust. But if I recall you buy fancier brands than that :-)

Thanks! I use the latest ACR for PS CS5, which isn't that new anymore. And I've been rethinking the noise suppression as well. Though I don't mind a bit of grain, so I rather leave it lower than 20% for most of the time.

Yes, there is more noise at low ISO than I saw from the D700 too. But I don't mind really since it works very well even above ISO 12800.

I enjoyed shooting the ZF more than I ever did on the D700. Just pointing the lens straight down when carrying it. The gap is very tiny, so it might be there even if you haven't noticed. But holding the lens instead of the camera cures it.
Nice images there! I can see a bit of CA, which ACR often can reduce to zero without effort. Have you tried that?
You are on fire, wilhelm, thanks so much for this demonstration of this great lens. To think some people dismiss alt lenses, quite unreal. The extraordinary shadow detail absolutely makes these images.
Sony have a totally different attitude to noise, which is why they made it so attractive. They don't try to scrub it away. Good thing too as it is always there, a constant companion.
Also, final ACR/LR now available for a7/a7r...see the Adobe site.
