So this first one was a spur of the moment pic. We live in a desert and literally NEVER get fog. Yesterday, however, a thick blanket of fog set in and lingered all day long. As soon as I picked Calista up from soccer practice, I threw her into this gown and hauled butt up the mountain behind our house to do a few mysterious forest/fog photos in the last light of the day. These were shot at a very high ISO due to the dark forest/foggy atmosphere. I've always had a 'thing' for forests - they are magical places to me.
This is a portrait of my 13 year old son taken using natural/garage light. My goal was to bring out his skin texture and freckles and do a high definition black & white edit. I practiced some new techniques to bring out freckles and am really happy with the result.
My little 6 year old, Millie...
These last images are of Mary and her son, Ashton. I have a running history with Mary - I did her senior photos, maternity photos, a fun vintage shoot with her, snow pictures when Ashton was little, and now a few fall images also. I've kind of taken her under my wing - she's a very sweet girl and has become a wonderful mother. I don't care how over-done the leaf thing is - I love it and will continue to shoot what I love.
Adding two more of my littlest one, Gabriel. He had his first haircut a few weeks ago and somehow, seems to be looking like a little boy all of a sudden and not a baby...
Thanks Tony! I duplicated my background layer and changed the blending mode of that duplicate layer to 'color.' Then underneath that layer, I did a channel mixer and just started playing. When using channel mixer each channel has to come out to 100 - so for example, if you are in the red channel and drop red down to 50, you would need to increase the green and blue to compensate and keep the total at 100. That said, decreasing red and increasing blue and green seem to darken freckles. I played around in both the red channel and green channel. I also added some luminosity masks and brightened the highlights and further darkened the darker areas (shadows/freckles/etc). Hope this makes some sense!
Beautiful and you know I love your work! But I do have one critique if you'll so humor me :-P The second shot of Mary is so wonderful, BUT the top half of her body looks very much cut and pasted onto the background. The bottom half not at all though. Do you see this or am I just crazy? Sorry, and I know you didn't ask for critique. This just jumped out at me. Thank you for sharing, I love looking at your work :-)

She has to be one fantastic young lady. Probably 4.0 student as well ...
Thanks guys! Ian, I played in channel mixer and increased blue and green to a lesser degree - really brought out some neat details in the skin and popped those freckles.
I just opened this thread and right away starting looking at the pictures. Then I thought, this looks like Lisa Holloway's work and checked to see if I was right, and sure enough.
