Thanks Fred.
2) The adapter infinity lock is also adjustable. Meaning, if your lens infinity hard stop is not at true infinity, you can adjust the adapter to make the lens true infinity be on the actual hard stop. That's is incredibly helpful.
The adjustable infinity lock is the key feature! Earlier versions of the Hawk's Factory adapter didn't seem to have that feature. Nor am I aware of other adapters with that feature. But I probably overlooked some.
The key word is adjustable. There are other adapters with an infinity lock that are not adjustable.
Kind regards, K-H.
Yes! That's the key feature but could be an issue if using it with several M lenses as the infinity adjustment may differ among them. I was happy that the adjustment is identical for all focal lengths of the WATE though. I will use this adapter exclusively on my WATE.
I know for sure only two helicoid adapters have the infinity lock (Not adjustable though)

Thanks for taking a look, guys. Guess this one is going back to CameraQuest. Twice a week or so I'm only a few blocks away from B&H, so I may give them a shot.

I think Fred and I both use the non-helicoid version of the CV adaptor. I've used a few with my WATE and this one gives the best results by far. The CV helicoid adaptor is not great with the WATE.
My dealer carries both the CV and the Novoflex and strongly suggested I get the CV because the construction of the Novoflex makes it more prone to being off centre.
As far as I know there's only one version of the WATE, which was released at the same time as the M8. Some may not be 6 bit coded (mine is) but I din't think there's any mechanical or optical differences. I also have the 67mm filter adaptor which I use with my Lee filters (you need to tape the RF window slots though).

Gordon,
Thanks for the info on the Wate. Fred says above that he is trying out the Hawk Helicoid adapter he received from Joshua and it works very well with the Wate. Being able to adjust the infinity hard stop is a very nice feature of the Hawk adapter.

The WATE already focuses down to 50cm without any help. How close to you need to go that you'd need a helicoid adaptor?

I read that it goes down to 0.5 meters but the hard stop on the lens is at 0.7m. (?)
I'm new to this lens and don't quite understand how this is even possible. Perhaps someone who knows can enlighten me.

Thanks Fred. Please just keep turning until 0.5 m. There is a little bump.
Rangefinder coupling stops at 0.7m.
Also, one needs to tape up the cut out on the hood.
Otherwise one gets asymmetric images with a filter or when doing LCC.

Yes, just saw that!
I may not even need a helicoid and already have the CV adapter. I will check it out.

Thanks Fred. I just did a little test with my TechArt Pro adapter and the WATE @ 16mm.
I could get a sharp image with the front of my lens less than or about 4 inches away from the subject.

Is that normal?
Yes, normal. It's a physical reminder for RF shooters that the lens will no longer be RF coupled at the nearer distances. RF focusing only works down to 70cm.

Heads up: I found the Leica filter adapter for the WATE (L14473) for $39.95.
I don't know anything about this store but seems to be legit and the adapter is in stock.

Yes, I've read taping the filter adapter holes is a must. I'm not sure it's needed for the hood as it does not accept filters.
What tape is best? Electrical tape? It would be nice to find a third party adapter without the holes.

Thanks Fred. I use black electrician's tape, attached to the outside of the hood. Works without a problem.
It's really needed for the hood if directly in front of the lens is a filter of plastic sheet that reflects the light coming in through the cut out.

I would be reluctant to use electrical tape in a hot environment. The adhesive seems to become quite gooey. I'd opt for proper gaffer's tape (as opposed to duct tape) because it generally does not leave a residue. But it will if you leave it on indefinitely and while in hot environments.
I'd probably look at making a plug for the cutout from black plastic modeling clay (can get it at Michael's), then taping it in place. Or even just a pack of Sugru?
