My 67mm adaptor ring actually came with a plastic ring specifically designed to cover the holes. But it was designed for the M8 so vignetted on 35mm. Maybe You could cut a peice of black card in a doughnut shape and slot it into the inside of the filter ring.

Yea I'm trying to decide if I'm going to make a Choppy E version. I'll get it in a few days. Honestly I don't even like looking at the petals never mind the functional part.
I did see a WATE filter holder from Japan that was solid though. I sent Fred the link just in case

Below is an image of Dark Hollow Falls, Shenandoah NP with water at extreme high after 16 inches of rain had been dropped several weeks before date of October 19, 2015. Image taken with my WATE set to 18mm on my tripod mounted A7r, ISO 50, lens set to f8 for 1/5 second. Processed in LR6. This is using the original Phigment Leica M to NEX adapter. Unfortuantely Paul discontinued the adapter after running out of parts for V2 of the Adapter.
I have yet to really try the lens on my A7r since it has been modded to an A7rM V3 but from what I have heard from others having had the mod, the lens should perform even a lttle better into the corners.

We found that the WATE was in the corners a tiny bit better for the modified A7r2.
But for the WATE alone a modification of the camera is not worth it as some native FE lenses will give inferior results.
Of course, for other M lenses a modification can result in big improvements.

Yes, I've read taping the filter adapter holes is a must. I'm not sure it's needed for the hood as it does not accept filters.
What tape is best? Electrical tape? It would be nice to find a third party adapter without the holes.
Seems this thread has moved to a WATE appreciation thread ha ha
I use Electricians tape on mine and it's a bit of a pain as gaps start to appear when you least want them to causing some problems with light leak in quite a few of my images when using my 10 stopper!
I did however only tape the outside of the filter holder... I may have to double up or just try different tape... I just can't believe the poor design with having these slots! OK I understand it helps for the rangefinder composition but thought they would have redesigned it now that the modern M cameras now have live view... Rant over..
All said and done, I absolutely love my WATE and can't see me ever letting it go... I got mine mainly as I just thought the FE16-35 was a little too large for my preference.
I use mine with Kipon adapter as it's only 30g although I also have Hawks v5 & Yeenon helicoids.
Here are some size comparison shots I took between FE16-35 and WATE @ 16mm (with adapter) for those who maybe interested

Hi Tim,
I will keep Choppy as well and use it in parallel with my WATE on a second camera.
Weight and size differences don't really matter between the two lenses IMHO.

I understand that for you, as you have the WATE (and I don't.) I meant to refer to the weight difference between my CV 15 and my ZE 15 (weight and size difference actually.)
If somebody gave me a WATE, I definitely wouldn't find it cumbersome at all relative to the CV 15. It covers 3 focal lengths to boot. I don't see me selling my CV 15 (or returning it..not sure what the window is), ZE 15, and Loxia 21 to pickup the WATE. And I don't have the funds to buy one outright.

Yeah, I try to at least mention the CV 15 when I post. There is so much useful WATE information in this thread, it's a shame it's buried under one with the current title.

I lost the files from the first copy (bad Lexar card), just as bad. Hope the replacement isn't a lens someone just returned. It really makes me wonder what retailers would do with those lenses that are returned for these kind of issues. Do they just pass them to the next customers because the lenses still basically look brand new? Or do they send them back to the manufacturer as defective units?
Someone won the $460M jackpot in New Jersey on Saturday. I am only looking to win the 15mm lens lottery.

Tomorrow i will get my 3rd one. The first two copies from different dealers had bad corners. As i really want to like this lens i gave it a third try. i hope i'm lucky this time

Looks like for now, the good copies are the exceptions, not the rule. We are seeing that in the U.S., Australia and Germany as well. Unless most of the folks who got good copies are not saying much. I do understand folks tend to be more vocal when they think there is something wrong.

Thanks and good luck.
Have you communicated with your vendors and let them know why you sent the lenses back?
Otherwise, why would they know it's a faulty lens?
When I sent my lens back to CameraQuest I certainly let Stephen Gandhi know.
He assured me to work with me when his next shipment arrives in 5 to 6 weeks.

Yes, i told the two vendors about the faulty corners. I don't know what they do with the lenses. One of them got lost anyway on the way back to the dealer. So now i'm waiting for my 3rd copy from the 3rd vendor...
