TheCameraStore told me they haven’t received their first shipment yet but that they only expect a single lens in the first shipment 😳😳. I don’t think I’m first in line....oh well...too busy with work to shoot anyways

They do look good. Do you have any of maybe a bird that was a decent crop? My back tells me that I need to switch from Canon and get this......but I need to see if the quality of what I have gotten with current equipment is good enough. And of course, I, too am interested in shots with the TC.
Thanks
Thank you very much. I haven't done many crops as of yet, but this is photo of a female Satin Bowerbird and also a 100% crop. Taken @ 1/200sec and ISO2200 so the edge will have been taken off it.
D850 + 500 f5.6 PF, 1/200s f/5.6 at 500.0mm iso2200
100% crop of above. You can see where it is in focus and where it is not and the detail in the fetathers and around the base of the beak. DOF is very shallow with 500mm, f5.6 and this close distance.

Very nice samples Lance, though the SS on the BIF is a tad low...I try 1/5000 to get the eye absolutely sharp.
Thank you very much, Gary.
If you are talking about the first Eagle shot where I clipped off the top of the wing, yes a higher shutter speed may have helped, although it looks pretty good. Also, I was in a rocking boat and I also didn't want too high a speed as it would have boosted ISO up to 7200. As for the second Eagle shot, I'm not so sure it is the slow shutter speed, but possibly the light. This bird was moving slow but I was in a rocking boat and may have slightly missed absolute focus.
@Lance....
These are really impressive...
How do you find the handling and build of the lens. Is it responsive when trying to grab a focus point? How has it performed in low light where the contrast may be a bit poor?
Thanks for taking the time for beta testing this for us all.

Well with their current website page showing they will get it on Aug. 23rd, I would say they are really quick.
BjPhoto was the first store in Canada to have D850 cameras listed as In Stock...only a few weeks after release...so there may be some truth in them being able to get a 500PF...although they usually kept the website up to date with D850 availability so if they don't list the 500PF as In Stock then it is probably a lost cause....

Thank you very much, Bruce.
The build of the lens is very much like the 500 f4, just a scaled down version. In other words, the build is excellent. It is very responsive for AF and yes it does slow a tad in poor light but it is still excellent considering it is an f5.6 lens. Much, much faster then the 200-500 but not quite as fast as the 400 f2.8E FL VR or 70-200 f2.8E FL VR.
If you scroll down in this NR link, to the first video in “Hands On Videos with AF Speed Tests” you can see a visual demonstration of just how quick the AF speed is *indoors*.

It's a small store, the one where I walk in to buy most of my stuff.
Regardless being small, they do get new products quicker than some other places.
I'm not saying they will have it for sure, but it's worth to try it.
BTW, don't go by their website, it's a small place, and it's not up to date all the time, just call them in.
Watched the other vids too.
So the 400DOii wasn't received that well. Really?

Thanks Lance for all your descriptions and work with that lens.
These examples are insanely sharp and detailed and it must be a joy to shoot with this very versatile and lightweight tool, which this new lens is indeed.
If I had the money just now, would buy it right away!
P.S.: will have to get my hands on a d850first though...
