I have not posted here before. I am not a pro and my interests are wildlife and nature, including landscapes. Not a birder but I do like birds, when I can photograph them.
The 100-400GM is an amazing lens no doubt. It does very well with TCs and I've ended up using it mainly with an extender. Which creates its own set of problems with the DOF etc.
Here are a few pictures from last year, have not done anything this year due to personal reasons.
These are all from a winter workshop in Hokkaido. The whooper swans were shot on the waters of a frozen volcanic lake in the middle of a snowstorm, the sea eagles at sunrise from a fishing boat in the pack ice and the cranes in a snow covered field. The red fox shot is a first as the animal has never been seen to confront a Steller's Eagle in this manner, usually they end up being eaten!

Some times your favorite shot is not the one you planned for. Today moving from one location to another on Top of Mount Washington (NH) I spotted this couple getting married. They really got lucky as I did with the weather. It is usually in the clouds, cold and windy. It's an IG quality shot but if I wasn't carrying the 100-400 I would have kept walking

Not long after the wedding shot I got what I'm calling an "eye of Sauron" Sunrise This is at 327mm. This lens is so flexible. Like I said before my favorite landscape lens.

I find it quite challenging to get a sharp picture in hot weather especially if I'm far away from the subject. I have been trying really hard to get a sharp picture of this group of red shouldered hawks who lives in my neighborhood. One of them always parks on top of the light post. With a6400, 100-400 and 1.4tc, I just can't seem to get that tack sharp picture. I have messed with shutter speeds from 1/500 - 1/2000. Stabilizing my hand on my car, etc. If anyone has some advice, please let me know.

Using the car to help you may be some of the problem.
I get more heat waves off the car than anything else.
Sitting in the car with the heater on or AC on sets up a heat wave right at the window.
Sitting in a running car, the breeze can move the heat from the engine or exhaust between you and your subject.
I try to get off the road and away from the car.
Of course some critters won't stand for that and take off.
Maybe try a different time of day when the heat waves are less visible.

Does the appearance of this picture look like it's from heat wave to you?
