Just picked up a new copy of this lens on sale to mate with my Z5 and shocked this little lens doesn't get more love. Anyone else pick this up on the current sale? I have to wait until Christmas to play with my new toy... but very excited.
I used to shoot with the Sony 55mm 1.8 Zeiss when I dabbled in Sony. Hoping/have heard this lens is of similar gestalt to that awesome little lens.
Kinda sad that this thread gets minimal posts in this forum. I guess a nifty fifty isn't all that exciting, but this lens seems to stand out in its own way from most in my bag, both with its sharpness and the general look. Been using it more and more lately and it's gonna be pretty hard to justify ever getting the 1.2.

just a heads up for the n00bs, if you recently bought this lens or have had it months! - make sure you check the firmware on it. there was an update provided by nikon for the 50 S.
Probably one of the best Z primes in terms of price/performance ratio, especially if you buy it used.
Cost me just € 400 two years ago and it even came with a Kenko Extension Tube Set DG, 10 + 16mm, which alone costs € 189.
Lens like new out of the box, previous owner hardly used it.
The previous owner hadn't even registered it with Nikon, so I even got the European 5 year guarantee in my name.
Used it far too rarely in the past, too much choice.
This weekend I finally used the Z 50/1.8 S again at my niece's wedding.

Digging through unedited photos in the archive and came across this gem that I think really reminds me of how this lens shines as a family photojournalism compact solution. Love this lens.
I know the 1.8S thread seems to be the more recently used one, but I'm hoping we can revive the lens threads as that will be the more intuitive place for people to look for sample images from these lenses. Here's some samples from a recent wedding where I was a guest and trying to stay out of the way of the wedding photographer. All taken with the Zf and 50mm f1.8S.
