What you describe as focus breathing is focus shift. Focus breathing is with a zoom lens that is not parfocal changing focus point with different zoom settings.
A focal plane that (typically) shifts toward infinity as you stop down is focus shift.
Just fwiw I have not observed focus shift on my VM 21/1.4.

Nope.
Focus breathing occurs when focusing. (zoom or prime)
Thank you for the correction, of course you are right.
It is present in my copy, albeit slightly. But my recommendation has less to do with it: With smaller apertures, I get a more uniform result overall if I don't focus for the highest sharpness in the center of the picture. With larger apertures, I accept different levels of sharpness throughout the pciture, but then I would like to get the highest possible sharpness in the central elements of the picture to get a sharper overall impression.

It is the change in focal length when doing so.
Nope, at least not normally.
Image can be magnified as you focus closer, amount depends on the lens design. Focal length is by definition measured at infinity so doesn't change. Zooms are sometimes exceptions, but they are odd anyway!

Yep -
"What is Focus Breathing?
Focus breathing is a term that describes the change in focal length that occurs as a result of adjusting the focusing distance of a lens. It is a common issue that occurs on many photographic lenses. As focus is adjusted from close focus to infinity, focus breathing causes noticeable changes in both angle of view and magnification.
These changes are often clearly visible to the photographer during the process of focusing, with different lenses exhibiting varying levels of focal length changes. Focus breathing issues can occur on both prime and zoom lenses."

Google it.
Don't know who google is quoting, but look up the definition of focal length (ina reputable text book, not some internet blogger). Its measured at infinity. Only a few lens types change focal length when focussing, mainly internal focussing types and the odd zoom
Sorry yes I was confused. Focus breathing is the change in image magnification as focusing, this can be mitigated in complex designs with floating elements.
Great little lens. This is the VM version on my modified A7RII.
I know I don't have enough DOF, I captured the images to stack but sadly the light left when I got to the background shots here is the stacked version.
Do you guys see Voigtlander releasing an SE version of this lens or perhaps of the f/3.5 version? And if yes, do you think length wise the f/1.4 would become significantly shorter or just shave some weight?
Thanks for that! I've got the Nisi S5 system for my 14-24mm and love the medium grad as well. I might look at the M75 system as it seems a lot more manageable size wise than the S5!
