I assume at least 15% of preorders are from people that just want to resell the X100VI for a profit. If the 4 year old X100V was selling for $1800 a month ago I imagine the X100VI selling for $2500 on eBay next week.

I preordered a little later on launch day than others (around 10:45 AM), but from my local store which I’ve generally had good success with preorders of in demand items. Will I get mine next week? Maybe. Will I get mine in 3 months? Maybe.

I’m not too worried, as I have the X100V and so when the upgrade comes it comes.

I could be wrong, but, I think in one of the Youtube videos, a reviewer mentioned that he'd been playing with a pre-production unit since October. If that's the case, and assuming Fuji began producing these for distribution in November, at 15000 units/mo, we are looking at 60000 units by 2/28.

Many people preorder through multiple vendors in hopes of getting one as soon as it is released, so, I think the preorder numbers are definitely inflated. Even then, Fuji is going to struggle to meet the demand in a timely manner.

I had it, or my rant...

So, to make it easier on Fuji's backlog I just cancelled my Order with B&H, I just cannot digest moving production to China, for me one of my "personal fetishes" of X Line was made in Japan, what I am not saying is that the quality of model "VI" is going to be any lesser than model "V," yes I do have Z8, Z9 and lot of Z lenses many if not all are made in China, I just would not accept the even X100 is now made in China; anyway, I hope no Fuji Executive loose some sleep, or apatite because of what just did...

We'll see, of course, but I highly doubt that x100VI's will be going for much higher than MSRP. It won't stop trying people from trying, but I suspect Fujifilm has learned their lesson (as evident by the price increase as well).

If people can't get them they will sell for more.

$1400 in 2020 (when X100V was released) is about $1668 in 2024 adjusted with inflation.. Yes, we have that much inflation over the past few years.
X100VI is basically the same value, if not a slight discount, as X100V when it was first released. Made in China is no guarantee of supply, just look at DJI OSMO Pocket 3...

No need to justify, I get it. I won't buy the Leica lenses made in Canada or Portugal. I will only buy the German made. Maybe they're better or the same, I don't care. Same thing with my guitar. Fender has US or Mexican made guitars. I've played the Made in Mexico versions and they play great and worth the discounted price. But I want the Made in US Fender guitar.

I guess you aren’t up to date on Leica woes

Countries get their own allocations. If China has that many legit preorders, then those people will be waiting for years. China’s preorder count in no way affects the US market.

It's no different than Leica offering made in Portugal M lenses for a while to avoid the US tariffs we had for a few years. Zeiss outsourced their C/Y lenses to Cosina in Japan, which has continued to this day with the Classic > ZM > Milvus > Otus lenses. Good companies that outsource to China set up monitoring to keep things being made to the same level of quality. Apple products are impeccable, and they're made in China. It's all about how tightly controlled the production is by the parent company. It's completely different from products designed in China and made in China by Chinese companies.

Z9 and Z8 are made in Thailand not China.

Thank you "robert_in_ca," for the correction,

I should have been more precise when I commented, since I am aware of it, yes, Z8*, Z9, just like many Z lenses that are made in Thailand, to my old timer's approach it make no difference to me, China, or Thailand, or wherever, if Leica is not made in Germany, Nikon in Japan, and now X100 also outsourced, it is not what used to be, again I am not questioning build quality, of course with OEM hawkish quality control. it is just not "my world," anymore…

And yes I am sort of pissed, someone mention Cosina, for me that “is” different story, Cosina is “Made in Japan,” I had several Cosina made lenses, including phenomenal ZEISS 135 f/2 ZF2, and few Cosina’s build Voigtlander lenses as well, it is not just build quality, it is history of the brand, its name, how long has been around, tradition, I am sure many FM members here who like me have been in this photography “thingy,” either professionally, or I just as pathetic amateur for half of a Century, where is made means something or a lot, and no offense, for those who perhaps started making pictures with Android, or iPhones and stepped in this world in last decade or so, for them understandably means lot less if anything….

My apology for continuing on, not starting any War, just expressing my piss-off view and lastly if Limited Edition of X100VI is made in Japan I would gladly snatch one given a chance to get it, since it would be limited to just 1934 Cameras, though I am not sure is that allocation per each Market, or Worldwide.

You do know that Cosina licensed the brand from the original voigtlander right? They’re separate and distinct companies. It would like if ttartisan licensed the Zeiss brand and started marketing their lenses as planar or sonnar licenses.

Personally I think a Nikon lens made in Thailand or a Fuji camera made in China as more true to the company’s original heritage than a third party licensee rebranding themselves.

Acting like CV lenses don't have copy variation despite being made in Japan, or Leica units aren't failing or sputting shutter grease all over their sensors or having their paint literally fall off despite being made in Germany, all while bemoaning China is something.

I'm not stoked that Fuji moved manufacturing as I think their made in Japan X100V is a very finely crafted piece of kit. Once we have the VI in hand we can make a real assessment of what the move meant to build quality if anything.

Hey guys, I really like the look of the square lens hood, but I'm reading that I can see parts of the lens hood in the OVF? What about in EVF mode? I'm not entirely convinced the circular lens hood including Fuji's is any better at protecting the front element. I think you guys have said Fuji's own lens hood isn't as good as the third party. Is there a consensus as to which one to get?

I don't see too many reviews or comments about the X-T5's video performance. I would be interested in using the X100VI in 4K30p HQ mode. I'm assuming there's no crop and I'm getting the full width, but since it's downsampled from 6K, the quality should be good? Is rolling shutter going to be significant to be noticed even if used on a tripod? I'm reading that 4K30P is using the HEVC codec, but it's 10-bit 4:2:2? Is this true? If so, the quality should be really good and easily edible!

I got to handle one at my local store today. Feels exactly the same as the V, save for the weight. The extra weight is more noticeable than I expected. The X100V feels very light. The VI feels a bit dense. It’s not heavy, but is immediately noticeable if you have experience with earlier X100 cameras.

Go watch any review of the X-H2 video quality and all of that is applicable for anything 200mbps and lower. Of course the VI ibis looks noticeably worse in video mode than the H2.
