I prefer the full frame equivalent of a 35mm-40mm lens. I tried a Leica Q 28mm (though some say it is actually wider) when it originally came out and I never could get used to that focal length for a general purpose. If I could only shoot with 2 primes I would pick 35mm and 85mm equivalents.
I think most people that have or will have an X100 series camera have other cameras and this is their fun camera, night camera, party camera, easy walk around camera and or pair it with another camera.
I am planing a few trips for this spring and summer and I want to travel light. My plan is to bring the X100VI and X-T5 with 32mm touit, 50mm f2 along with a Sigma 10-18mm plus a small Lensbaby. All should fit in a small bag and I will choose what to bring on each outing.
I think a really cool variant of the X 100 platform would be an 85 mm equivalent lens version that has a vertical instead of horizontal format. Make it so that it’s a camera optimize for taking portraits. Maybe even putting that AFD technology.

Ummm, that is totally subjective. I seldom want anything wider than 28 mm (on FF).
Edit: But to me it's too wide for a fixed focal length camera. 35-40 is perfect.
I have a X 100 T right now, and I do think that the difference between each successive generation isn’t that large, so I wonder if they could alternate lenses one generation with a 28 mm one with a 35 mm equivalent. And that way they kind of expand the coverage of the platform, and really only the people that want the latest and greatest Are facing a choice.
That in my comment for a either vertical or square format version with an 85 mm lens optimized for portraiture
I agree I rarely probably go past 28 mm, but for my zooms I know that I do use 24 mm a lot, sometimes if nothing else to help with cropping afterwards, but also for interior shots when I’m traveling. And the X 100 series is definitely my traveling camera. If we did have a 28 and 35 mm lenses by generation, the 28 could probably be expanded out to 24 with an adapter. I’m kind of really liking that idea, and not just because I came up with it.
I have the X-T5 that I use primarily for video. Had the XH2s but like the form factor and screen better on the XT5. Video quality is really good with lots of options. I find myself using F-Log a lot less, instead using a film simulation at 100mbps @ 422 10bit. Rolling shutter is slight but definitely there. You just need to be aware of it with your motion and you're fine. X100VI will be the best compact hybrid available. IBIS will help with the micro-shakes. Built in ND will be useful. Since MF is not good, hopefully the AF delivers. Really excited for the video features.

I don't see too many reviews or comments about the X-T5's video performance. I would be interested in using the X100VI in 4K30p HQ mode. I'm assuming there's no crop and I'm getting the full width, but since it's downsampled from 6K, the quality should be good? Is rolling shutter going to be significant to be noticed even if used on a tripod? I'm reading that 4K30P is using the HEVC codec, but it's 10-bit 4:2:2? Is this true? If so, the quality should be really good and easily edible!
Got in an early preorder for a black unit but now thinking I want silver. I called the camera store I use on the west coast and they said they had over 600 preorders! I guess black it is unless I find someone who wants to swap.
I also wonder what the availability of the limited edition will be in the US. My camera store said they wouldn't be getting any. Does anyone have any info on them yet for the US?

Fuji said Limited Ed is through Fuji directly only with only around 1000 units. You very likely aren't getting one
Good video completely filmed on the VI to give a sense of what is possible.
As you mentioned earlier, stabilization greatly enhances video shooting. Were all the stills taken with the new Reala film simulation? I didn't catch that.
I've tried the new Cobalt Elite Fujifilm Reala simulation and I really like it. I usually just add a tad more vibrance, but I appreciate the pop it gives to images.

He said he's a Provia Standard shooter with light edits over the JPEGS, but they don't much look like Provia to me
Really looking forward to creating a new recipe based on Reala...will post it when I'm happy with it.

Fujifilm already has some amazing products that will let get that portrait lens equivalent that you need. Even better, you don’t have to give up the 23mm option to get this.
It is an amazing concept called “interchangeable lenses.”
You get a XPro, XE, XT30ii, XT5, XH2/XH2S and you switch between a 23mm lens a 56mm lens. Simple. Easy. Works great.
Added feature: you can use these cameras and lenses in landscape or portrait mode! What will they come up with next?! Amazing!
(Hint: the X100vi also comes with that special landscape/portrait feature.)
Is anyone thinking of picking this up? Has anyone used this with a compatible camera like the X-T5 and whether it can remotely trigger a shitter or an auto exposure bracket?
With regards to screen protectors, I'm tempted to wait before buying one, but how do you guys know for sure the V screen protectors on Amazon will fit?

I have an Osmo Pocket 3 and honestly it is so good I don't see a need for anything like this to film on an X100 camera at all.

Optical rangefinder is nearly useless on long focal distances. Any other DSLR or mirrorless does what you want, and some even in small packages.
In the months when the Fujifilm X100v was unavailable, I bought a Sony a7C2 with the 40mm f/2.5 for street. It just weighs 4 oz more than the x100v & the body isn’t quite as long. I’ve come to like it.
The only thing I really dislike about the Sony is the flip screen - I’d much rather have the tilt screen of the x100v & I’m curious about the film simulations.
But I’m conflicted. Will the x100vi complement the Sony or be redundant?
I have the a7C2 and 40mm and I'm getting the X100VI too. It will be fun to compare the two.
I had the original X100 back in 2011 by 2014 I had replaced it with the Sony RX1. Both cameras had focus issues but that is a thing of the past.

Any advice?
The more cameras you have, the less each will get used, especially if the functions overlap. Sounds like you already have a great setup for shooting street, so is it worth the huge chunk of change to have a second fuji setup for street as well? Would you use a different lens like a wide or telephoto or a fast prime on the Sony (like an 85mm 1.8) to complement the x100vi?
Even if you are sticking to just the 40mm, the Fuji could still complement your setup in terms of how you shoot. One is fast and decisive, the other (fuji) is slower and more deliberate, different cameras for different occasions. The worry is that for some people (like me x.x), these justifications might just be an excuse to get a shiny new thing, so you do need to be honest with yourself if the x100vi will really expand your photography capabilities, bring you more enjoyment while shooting, or just satisfy GAS
