Next release window would be FIFA World Cup 2026 in June as the R3's 4 years 4 months old now. This is if we assume it follows the 1-series & 5-series typical replacement cycle of 4-6 years.
Any news if this will be a CFexpress 4.0 body? If I am not mistaken we've saturated CFexpress 2.0 standard with the 2024 R1 & R5 Mark II?

This one is better organized but they say take with a grain of salt. No mention of CFexpress but an emphasis on experimental.

Two lanes of CFe 2.0 (PCIe 3.x) is more than enough bandwidth for several generations of new cameras. For example the R5 II uses about a quarter of CFe 2.0. However, the newer Digics probably will support CFe 4.0. Just don't expect the cards alone to make a proportional difference.
I know this is a dead horse but really wish Canon came out with a 44x33mm MF digital film camera that could be adapted to EF lenses with large enough image circle.
- TS-E 17mm f/4L
- TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II
- EF 40mm f/2.8 STM (Pancake)
- EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM
- EF 135mm f/2L USM
- EF 200mm f/2L IS USM
- EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
- Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art
Going back to R3 Mark II looking forward to what this mid 2026 body will look like and hold it in the hand before Christmas.
I'm still waiting for so much Canon Vorpaware that it's difficult to keep track. Maybe the R3 II will come along with the 300-600/5.6.
I'm not interested in any funky non-Bayer sensor though.
This seems rather too good to be true... If it turns out to be real, it would be a real showcase for Canon sensor innovation.
Edit: and apparently Leica uses something similar in the M11 and its other 60Mp cameras. These models actually offer triple resolution (60, 36, and 18) using pixel binning techniques similar to smartphones.
It will be interesting to see if Canon is doing something similar or if there is some additional secret sauce (assuming any of this is real).
Sure, but it sunk into the ocean after the "green flash".
I'm not understanding the 24/54MP ratio. That would imply 2/3 resolution in each direction that would create some kind of artifacts? There would be three different sizes of pixels, one single, one 2x2, one 2x1 and one 1x2.
It does make a bit of sense to me, if possible, which knowing Canon and their engineers it well could be. A DUAL resolution sensor that could offer extremely low noise low light capability with expanded dynamic range when needed, but with a switch punch in over 50megpixels for those needing more detail be it birding or landscapes. A great idea if I do say so, and I'd buy it. Perhaps most exiting in addition to all that would be upping that EVF resolution and brightness (which Nikon has in the wings for the Z9MkII). That along with 40+fps shooting at max resolution RAW. A newly designed battery tech to up the life over 40% from the last one. Geez won't that be amazing. Couldn't care less about the video end of things although obviously advanced. The advanced sensor readout virtually eliminating any chance of rolling shutter. All that would indeed punch them ahead of Nikon and Sony. But lets keep our eyes out as the leaks regarding the coming Z9MkII seems rather groundbreaking as well with a LOT more AI added to a super fast dual chip. Can't wait to see if any of this incredible stuff actually happens. I'm quite sure at least in the next 3-5 years it WILL. But the question is will we have to wait that long?.
Rumors can always be fun late last night I stumbled upon another person that did a you tube rumor of said camera back in December. Ironically Canon Rumors heard nothing of it until yesterday. Goes to show rumours come from everywhere. As I say rumours can be fun whether they come to fruition or not. One constant thing is if true it is experimental and many experimental things never see the light of day. Then again it should be remembered all rumour sites are constantly looking for clicks whether their rumour is true or not.
Dual resolution
Unique Enhanced Sensitivity Bayer array
Quad Pixel CMOS AF
RAW video recording in-camera up to 9K at 60fps and 6K at 120fps,
Wow! 54mp 40 fps!
We'll see what they come up with looks like something is coming out. Edit: I guess Canon rumors doesn't think so, skeptical of their 1Dx4 explanation though, looked like IV to me
