nothing special about these shares
but I wanted to post and get my thoughts out.

a neighbor's kid. Love the pants!
shot from under a canopy of shade in mid-day sun today
pretty much sooc JPG

#2
shot this on a patio, the house providing shade for the subjects, which are not composed well, obviously... this is in mid-day sun today
pretty much sooc JPG
terrible capture, but the point is that, this table is a small four chair round table. but three of the chairs are all pushed together in one area.
a 1.8 lens absolutely destroyed that chair in between the kids. it's right behind the boy!
so tell me, does this lens have some special sauce? can this lens really be 1.8? Seems like 1.4 lol

#3
little bit of a crop, and some editing in LR, just basic stuff, from JPG
the new Kelly Moore bag, the "Kate 2.0"
I'm hand holding, leaning over my dining room table, shooting down on the bag with a 50mm and the background (on the table) is just destroyed, I'm really blown away.
46 megapickles! IBIS is a thing we needed a while ago, thank you Sony for pushing Nikon!

VERY happy with the colors of the z6 and z7,
the jpg are solid!
I use those for casual stuff, all the time.

skin tones are soooooo easy to work with, compared with Sony. work with? I don't think I even have to do anything now.
now, the files are not a perfect 10 overall, when compared with the Sony III files, but they are solid. I'd say if the Sony files were a 10, the Z files are a 9.5. The EOS R files are a 6.
mainly I have to be careful not to overexpose, as the highlights are not as pliable.
EYE AF, if Sony is a 10, Z bodies are a 9. EOS R is a 1.

So much special sauce in the 50. Are you shooting only the Z7, or Z6 as well?

Love these, especially the composition in the 2nd photo. That would look great printed large!

My first (test) shots with the Z 50mm f1.8 S on a Z6.
Very nice lens, definitely better than the 50mm f1.4G and 1.8 G.

1. f1.8

2. f2.2

3. f2.2

4. f4

Thanks Charles!

The 50 f1.8 S reminds me a lot of the Zeiss Sonnar 55 f1.8, except better in a way I can't quite put my finger on. I think it might be that I just prefer a more neutral rendering with great skintones - which the 50 f1.8 S definitely delivers.

The 50/1.8S rendering seems similar to the FE 55/1.8 but only at near distances. The 50/1.8S is quite amazing even with mid distances. Like already mentioned the separation almost seems like a f/1.4 lens

How are you finding the AF between the two? I remember pre-release, there was some fuss made about the Z7 having a stop less low-light AF performance. Does that seem to be the case in the real world?

@BSPhotog

Ben, since it's June... my report cards....

- DR, Low Light, Overall file pliability - I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 an A+ and Z6 Z7 an A

- EYE AF ability to lock onto a sugar pumped 4 year old, with long hair, bouncing all around your frame, I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 an A+ and Z6 Z7 an A. Pre-2.00, I gave Nikon a C (Satisfactory, just like DSLR)

- Color, Auto WB, Color Consistency, Skin Tones - A7III A7RIII A9, I give Sony a C-
- Color, Auto WB, Color Consistency, Skin Tones - Z6 Z7 D850 D5 D750 I see them being VERY similar, I give Nikon an A. I'd add that the color science may actually be slightly improved in the Z bodies. But they are all (all mentioned bodies) consistent enough that nothing requires much attention.

- Metering & Auto ISO - I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 a B+ and Z6 Z7 an A

- Battery Life - both impressive for mirrorless, I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 an A+ and Z6 Z7 a B+

- Ergo - I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 a C, but then give them a bump to C+ b/c of the combo of "wheel", joystick, and two AF button options. I'll give Z6 Z7 a B+, if they gave us the formerly mentioned options, it would be an A.

- JPG with LR - I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 a C and Z6 Z7 an A+
- RAW with LR - I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 a C and Z6 Z7 an A
this is partly Adobe's fault, with Sony

- 12-24 f4 vs 14-30 f4 - Sony A++, Nikon B
- 24-70 2.8 - Sony A, Nikon A++
- 24 1.4 and 135 1.8 - Sony A++, Nikon TBD
- 35 1.8 - Sony I (1.8), Sony C (2.8), Nikon A
- 50 1.8 - Sony F (50), Sony A (55), Nikon A
- 85 1.8 - Sony A, Nikon TBD
- 70-200 2.8 - Sony B+, Nikon TBD

- Hot Shoe Design - Sony D, Nikon A

- Menu System - Sony C, Nikon A.
Nikon note, if they let us pick and pop items into the Fav's List from the entire batch, like the Eos R, that would help them get an A+. AND if they gave us the ability to put ANYTHING in there. Why not let us put auto iso/min SS parameters in there??

- Memory Card Slots - Sony A (dual uhs-II to get an A+), Nikon C (dual xqd card would be an A-, due to cost)
- Time it takes to format a memory card in camera - I'll give A7III A7RIII A9 a D and Z6 Z7 an A+

It took me a long time to realize how much the Sony colors were kicking my tail.
I had to use Fred's color tweaks, with red/green. I was also using EosHD for sooc jpg, which was helpful. And all of this was still not good enough to compare with the amazing color science employed by both nikon & canon - specifically for skin tones.

messed with the tones on these, so I separated them from the previous pair.

She wanted to go down into the stream.
Quickly came back, looking like she saw a ghost. But it was just a baby snake!
