I hope this was OK to do, but I took the liberty of providing some relevant info about what I do when it comes to wildlife video and how and why I do it.

Why I do wildlife videos.
Ever since I was 5 years old I have always loved being in nature and have always been fascinated by wildlife. Nature programs on TV were my favourite shows and David Attenborough's programs were at the top of my list. My passion for nature led me to do an undergraduate degree in Science (Biology) and various other pursuits along the

A small clip this morning of the mallards at our pond this morning. It is fun to have them return each year. I used the R1 + 100-300mm handheld.

Rob,
This is so good, I have to ask some questions on shooting info.
I'm interested in if you shot in 8k or 4k.
Did you use Log, RAW, or reg in camera process.
120fps with or without sound, or regular, i.e. 29.97 with sound and slowed in post.
Which microphone did you use.
Thanks,
Dave

Due an unexpected pressing need at home I have had to radically cut back on the number of times I can go out with my camera, which is why I have been posting so rarely here lately.

Common Goldeneye Ducks passing through Ottawa in March on their way up north to their breeding grounds in the Boreal Forest.

A major challenge in filming these Goldeneye ducks, which are both pure white and pure black in places, is that in order to show their stunning iridescent colours you need to film them in full bright sunlight. However, then you'll have the problem of limited dynamic range and getting the exposure just to not blow out the details in the highlights or to crush the details in the blacks and shadows. I used Canon C-log3 as my video profile and paid pretty close attention to my exposure settings. Although the results are perfect I'm nevertheless pretty happy with them, there are lots of details in the the whites and the blacks.

She gave me some nice views and turned around before she flew away, chattering as she left.

Lovely footage, Dave! So nice to have such a cooperative Kingfisher around.

Thank you, I shot in 4K 120fps (R1 does not go to 8k only 6k). This was in camera processing, I really like the R1 strait out of the camera myself. I added the sound separate on this so no original audio.

Mics I own

Zoom H5 with different modules
Rode Stereo Videomic X

Thank You Rudy.
It is a treat when she is around, which is sporadic when I visit this conservation area.

Thanks Rob.
I also like straight out of camera video.
I don't see how your video could have looked or sounded any better.

This Great Blue Heron is quite the fishing machine. Over a 7 minute period, it caught at least 5 fish. This 2 1/2 minute video shows the skills catching and eating the fish. The last clip is slowed to 1/4 speed when catching so you can see it well. At Ted Shanks Conservation Area in Pike County, Mo. on April 23, 2025. R5 MKII RF200-800 4k and 4k 120fps. Various focal lengths.

The next day tried my luck with the Great Blue Herons fishing again. I got a big kick out of the middle clip, when a very big fish splashes over by the Heron and the Heron backs up. It knew there was no way to get that big a fish down its skinny throat!! At Ted Shanks Conservation Area in Pike County, Mo. on April 24, 2025. R5 MKII RF 200-800 4k on beanbag support from cab of truck.

Indigo Bunting and female Belted Kingfisher last week at Ted Shanks Conservation Area in Pike County, MO. I was watching a Muskrat take vegetation back and forth across a ditch, and these decided to visit. The sound in the last clip on the video is a freight train going by. Was surprised it took the Indigo Bunting as long to fly as it did.

Muskrat working on nest at Ted Shanks Conservation Area, Pike County, Missouri. This Muskrat was very busy taking grasses and vegetation over to its nest across the stream. Back and forth, again and again. It posed at first and at the end of the video for some nice close-ups.
